Our current AB Secretary will not be able to continue in September. If you would let your coordinators know that I will be putting out a call for a secretary to see if anyone is interested, that would be fabulous. We have been working out the issues with the minutes so this coming year should be much easier to manage them. Please have anyone who is interested to write to me at NCUSGENWEB@gmail.com to let me know. I will let them know when the call for volunteers will be posted so they can submit their formal interest. Thanks or your kind assistance. Hartford is a very "beefy" well developed county site dating back to 1996. It needs some updating, but contains tons of data. New Haven had several CCs over the years, and sort of languished.  I have cleaned it up and updated links, and it is ready for an enthusiastic coordinator. This year, there are several open positions where more than one highly qualified volunteer has agreed to run, and serve if elected. I would like to suggest you take the next few days before the election starts to familiarize yourself with all the candidates. Several of them have posted campaign pages and they are listed on the Meet the Candidates page at <http://usgenweb.org/usgwelections/candidates-index.html> If you have questions, and the candidate has not posted a campaign page with a contact email, ask on your State, Special Project, or Regional mailing list. Even if a candidate is not a member of a particular mailing list, someone on that list will probably be familiar with the candidate's participation in USGW, and be able to suggest how to reach them with any questions you may have. 2. Happy Sunday! I hope everyone is having the breezy, sunny spring weather we are enjoying in Atlanta! Please read the following, and share your ideas and preferences, on this list or privately. I hope we can have an ongoing conversation this week. I am VERY sad to announce that Julie Middleton has resigned as CC of Hartford and Windham Counties. She works full time as a real estate appraiser, and is no longer able to spend so much time with CTGenWeb. I've known Julie since 1998, and she really has been a trooper. She knows that the door is open for her return any time! Thank you, Julie! This leaves two well developed counties, Hartford and Windham, without County Coordinators, in addition to Litchfield County which had abandoned for awhile. I would like to discuss filling vacancies, and hope that you will respond on this list, or contact me privately, with your thoughts and suggestions. I have not yet searched for replacements outside the CTGenWeb, but will be doing that very soon. For those of you who have not been with CTGenWeb long, this is not a sudden earthquake. Those who have been around awhile, and may have served as SC or ASC, know that we have had several CCs who came in like gangbusters with tons of excellent material, lost interest over time, and diverted everything back to their personal genealogy sites. Some county sites have been abandoned, and there are old pages of broken links still floating around out there. If I find an abandoned site with the USGenWeb logo, and a link to CTGenWeb, I will make every attempt to get contact the missing coordinator before copying that data back to CTGenWeb. In most cases, they are not of any value. Perhaps, beggars can't be choosers, but I feel that it is healthy to have as many dedicated County Coordinators as possible, so the impact is less if a single CC leaves. So, one question is: If you have one county, is there a second available county of great interest to you? If you have only one county, is there another county that you strongly prefer? We can't necessarily accommodate, but it is worth considering. I'm may consider Windham County, because my Sabins were there. OR, does anyone have time to serve as interim CC until a county it is adopted? If you are a Town Coordinator, or Special Project Coordinator, is there a county of great personal interest to you, and would you consider added responsibility? The ideal is for everyone to have a town or county about which you feel a strong affinity. You will find information about what is expected on this page: http://www.ctgenweb.org/contribute.html We all have different perspectives. I have only been State Coordinator about 18 months, but I have had big counties in several states since 1998. I am rarely busy with more than one at a time. Coordinating means responding to volunteers and researchers, and uploading contributions. If you have time to do primary research, that's great, but in my opinion, our job is to welcome participation, and make it easy for the contributor. I'd love to get your feedback! There are some email addresses on the CTGenWeb mailing list that I don't recognize. If you are receiving these messages, and are no longer an active member of the CTGenWeb Project, please let me know, and I will remove your name. Thanks you!

    1. [CTGEN] Important CTGenWeb Business - Please Read!
    2. Hi, Everyone, I am in the process of cleaning up the membership roll for CTGenWeb to send our report to the USGenWeb Election Committee. Many official CTGenWeb town sites were housed on other domains, and if they have been abandoned, we have NO control except to try to make clear to the public which site is current and part of the CTGenWeb. If we are encouraging volunteer participation, I think we must make it clear if the link to a town site is an OUTSIDE LINK, and WHOM to contact to make a contribution to the current CC, or TC, or Special Project Coordinator. Active members are required to be subscribed to the state list. When a CC or TC does not answer roll call, I give it a month, and then send a personal email. If there is no response, I'll send another message. If it bounces, I'll do a thorough search on the Internet, looking for alternate emails or web pages. If everything bounces, I am removing that name from the list. I've determined that these names should be removed as TC or CC from all pages, and if you continue linking to their sites, PLEASE make it clear that they are OUTSIDE LINKS, and that the visitors should contact the current CC with any new contributions. Otherwise, enthusiastic researchers and volunteers will be going around in circles. Unless someone has more insight, I have determined that these former coordinators' names should be removed as TCs. If I have made a mistake, let me know! Otherwise, please check your pages and make the change: *Grace Coffman *Louise Neu *Joan deGrandis Reynolds *Ray Brown has been gone since 2008. Definitely, link to his massive reseach sites, but please make it clear that he is no longer active. *Kathleen Baker - ditto The only other postscript is that I am setting up a Google Group for CTGenWeb, in case RootsWeb goes down, so be on the lookout in the next week or so for an invitation. Thanks everyone for sticking with me through this transition. :-) Pat Patricia Sabin, State Coordinator The CTGenWeb Project http://www.CTGenWeb.org New London County CTGenWeb http://www.ctgenweb.org/county/conewlondon/ Email: newlondon@patsabin.com Alternate: patricia.sabin@comcast.net Alternate: patricia.sabin@comcast.net
