    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: BRUSH, DOWNES, DOWNS Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/TZ.2ADE/4454.2 Message Board Post: Hi, Marianne Please check the Stamford Probate District records, which included Greenwich prior to 1853. Spencer Mead says " The Probate Court for the District of Greenwich was created by an Act of the General Assembly, passed July 4, 1853." Stamford Probate Office Town Hall 888 Washington Blvd. Stamford, CT 06901 Main Office: (203) 977-4054 Title Search: (203) 977-5452 Hours: Monday through Friday, 9:00 am to 4:30 pm. Probate Records: 1650 to Present Note: Records may also be found at the Fairfield Probate Offices and at the CT State Library. Spencer P. Mead lists Captain Benjamin BRUSH in his "Ye Historie of Ye Town of Greenwich," page 513, with the following lineage 3. Benjamin, Captain, b. about 1739, d. Nov. 22, 1822, m. 1st, a dau of Rev. Benjamin Strong, m. 2d, Feb. 22, 1775, Rebecca Finch, b. Feb 10, 1752, d. May 7, 1826 and had by his first wife: 1. Lucy Ann, b. , m. Downs *snip* (Benjamin's sister, Mary Brush, married my 6 great-uncle, Brigadier-General John Mead of Grenwich.) Then, when I did a search for Lucy Ann Brush, I found the following Cemetery record for North Stamford Cemetery: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ctfairfi/pages/cemetery/cm_stmfrd/northstamford.htm "Weed, Seth [Jr.], died Dec. 26, 1822, age 68 yrs. Revolutionary War. [son of Hezekiah Weed & Mercy Seely] Weed, Lucy, wife of Seth, died July 31, 1818, age 65 yrs. [Lucy Ann Brush, daughter of Benjamin Brush & ? Strong]" Is this your Lucy Ann who died after a second marriage? Please do consult the Stamford Probate office or the CT State Library. Have you also checked Revolutionary War records? Both for Pension and other Rev. Military records? Sometimes there is a bounty of valuable genealogical records, which have been submitted by the Veteran and his family, in the process of proving one's right to a pension or other military awards.
