We have at least 2 children - Albert and Jonathan Carley - who are known by other evidence to have been born in the Wilton area in the 1750s. It is unknown whether they were born to John and Sarah Sherwood Carley or to John and Sarah's son Abraham, also born in the area, and his wife Susannah. Abraham, b @ 1731/2 is said to have served in the CT militia during the F & I Wars and to have died of unrelated causes before 1759 when his widow remarried Thaddeus Gray. The John Carley family moved into the Oblong before 1760 according to the Will of her father, David Sherwood. Were Albert and Jonathan the sons of John and Sarah or Abraham and Susannah? A second Abraham and Susannah Carley family are also known to have existed at the same time - this Abraham and Susannah, nee Brookins, later lived in Hillsdale, Columbia, NY, and are said to have had children born in Fairfield Co., CT - Is there any way to find out which of the Abrahams had which of the children? There was also a Joseph Carley (Carle) in the area in the 1720s - does anyone have information about him? Can anyone shed some light on these matters? Judy Schreiber Valdosta, GA
