    1. [CTFAIRFI] Re: Second Congrational Church / GREENWICH / 1801 marriage MERRITT & CARPENTER of RYE
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.co.uk/mbexec/msg/rw/TZ.2ADE/4355.1 Message Board Post: Yes and no. I stood in Put's hill overlooking Rt1 (King's Highway). That is in what used to be called the Horseneck. That was on the border on NY and I think Rye had claim to that land before Greenwich bought the land from the Horsacky? Indians. There are some records that survived the wars. I would start here http://www.rootsweb.com/~ctfairfi/pages/ctfairfi_welcome.html The Greenwich Hist Soc would have the records but they are always very busy. I think SP Mead published a book with the records. There was a Merrit family with early land holdings in the Horseneck if I remember correctly. Actually, the records become less sparce after 1800 and better still after 1812.
