They first appear in Norwalk with an Ezekiel Metrash born 1792 (info from tombstone in St Pauls Cemetary). Adam H. appears in the 1880 census with the occupation of boatbuilder. His ethnicity is mulatto. I know that he was deaf and could use sign language both his daughters Mary and Caroline told me this and they were fluent in it as well. His only son Robert Legrand was also deaf. Adam was also an oysterman and owned 2 boats the "Silence" and the "Whisper". The family also owned property listed on an 1847 map of Norwalk near the river. Hope some one can help me fill in more of the gaps, like how they got here and when. I can find no other family with this name except a person in Egypt.
