For as much as I have loved genealogy for the last seven years, I must say goodbye to my research for now. I've come to realize that after researching my Peck ancestors and finding out about the wars they were in like the American Revolution and the War of 1812, that they were fighting for the country that we now have. I've learned to have so much respect for my ancestors and to really appreciate their lives, even if they were farmers who became Militia men at a moments notice. Right now, the best way for me to help my country is not by researching their lives any longer, but to honor them by following in their footsteps and becoming a Minuteman. Our country is in a major crisis right now with the illegal immigration problems that we have and I didn't realize how bad it was until I actually started looking into it. All of my ancestors were immigrants at one point and like everyone else, had to go through the legal process of entering America. If they were sick when they arrived, they were not permitted to leave the ship. If they were without a job, they were made indentured servants to pay off the cost of coming here and to learn a trade. I'm tired of hearing about illegal immigrants coming into My country, accepting welfare, bringing their diseases, refusing to use birth control, stealing, & most of all, I'm tired of hearing "Press 1 for English." One set of my gg grandparents came over from Germany around 1870 and had to learn English to survive here. They had to learn to abide by the laws of America and had to provide their own income. There were no handouts. For the last seven years, I have non-stopped researched my family tree and for the last two years, I have transcribed numerous vital records and have posted thousands of messages with information on your ancestors. I will still honor any lookup requests that I have out there from the dozen genealogy books that I own. When I feel like our borders are more secure, I will eagerly resume my genealogy research. Until then, you can find me on the Minuteman message boards under the name of "BaskeLady." _http://forum.minutemanhq.com/phpBB2/index.php?sid=1bdd917071c15d6b17caba2d03e 343c2_ (http://forum.minutemanhq.com/phpBB2/index.php?sid=1bdd917071c15d6b17caba2d03e343c2) I ask just one thing of everyone on this list, please sign the petition to secure our borders. _http://www.minutemanhq.com/pet_hr1986/index.php_ (http://www.minutemanhq.com/pet_hr1986/index.php) Joyce Peck, Corpus Christi, Texas
