Even going in person, unless you're a registered genealogist, they won't let you look yourself. I've paid their recommended genealogist to look for my great-grandfather's birth record, and spent money for the incorrect information! I didn't discover this until almost a year later when a friend visiting in Utah was able to get a copy of his death record for me. So, I guess you have to be very careful. There are other towns in CT where I have personally looked and had no problems. Staff was either helpful or at least didn't mind my looking. I know how frustrated everyone is. We all want to find our illusive relations! As was also mentioned, with everyone looking these days, offices are understaffed. Wouldn't it be nice to have some volunteers work in these places to help us all out? In the small town I live in, this is what happens. Good luck! Ginny Gage
