Happy Holidays everyone... I am hoping that someone on the list would know where early State birth records are for CT - circa 1760's, Fairfield County. I have checked thru the LDS list of films under "vital records" for "New Fairfield," "Fairfield County," and "Connecticut" and do not find any State Vital Records as I have in Vermont. For "New Fairfield," there are two selections: Index cards to marriages, and Birth records ONLY from 1867-1960. For "Fairfield County," is one item: "Marriages and deaths (not taken from cemetery or tombstone records), 1790-1855, Fairfield County." For "Connecticut," we get vital records for Massachusetts and private collections. So, my question is: Are there no State birth records for Connecticut for the mid-1700's? Because of territorial changes, could these records be part of New York's records? I would appreciate any clues to my dilemma. My ancestor, Simeon HUNGERFORD, supposedly is the son of Samuel HUNGERFORD and Mary GRAVES, born in 1766. However, this has not been proven, to my knowledge. (It has also been said that Simeon was born in East Haddam. I have ordered several films and have not found any record of Simeon being born there, but then again, records are minimal.)
