He was 80. Mr. Schneider was born in Oak Park, Ill., son of the late Casper and Frances Winter Schneider. He is a former chemical engineer with American Can and during the Nixon administration he served as the assistant postmaster general. Mr. Schneider received his undergraduate degree from the University of Illinois and his MBA from the University of Chicago. Mr. Schneider was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, William A. Schneider of Mill Valley, Calif. and Michael J. Schneider of Madison; three daughters, Anne F. Scanlan and Nancy S. Kirby, both of Westport and Patricia J. Repik of Danbury; 10 grandchildren; one great grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial mass will be held today at 10 a.m. in Assumption Church, 98 Riverside Ave., Westport. Interment will be private. The Harding Funeral Home, 210 Post Road E., Westport, is in charge of arrangements.
