I thought I would make another stab at finding a documented connection between William Frost's (Fairfield Co, d. 1644/45) great-grandson, Abner of Elizabeth, NJ (Abner>Joseph>Daniel>William) and the Josiah Frost who appeared in Allegany County, MD in the 1780s. Although it is widely believed that the Josiah Frost named in Abner's will as his grandson is the same one that arrived in MD, I have not so far found any proof. the problem is that there is no record of the MD Josiah that shows his birth or parentage as far as I know. There was a Josiah Frost who lived in Orange, NJ, very near where Abner lived, but there are records of him being there long after the Josiah appeared in MD. And Jedediah, Abner's son, seems to disappear after the will names him. (There was a Jedediah whose will was registered in NJ about 1849 but that is too late for it to be Abner's son.) A NJ Josiah Frost married Elizabeth Parcell. Then a Josiah and Jedediah and Joseph Frost appeared in Loudin Co., VA shortly before the 1780's. That Josiah had a wife named Elizabeth. A deed signed in VA for Joseph or Josiah had a man named Stites as a witness. There was a Stites family in Fairfield. Can anyone tell me if some Stites's moved to VA? Shortly after the VA Josiah and Elizabeth sold their land, the MD Josiah appears on land records in Cumberland. No MD records mention Elizabeth, and his will (1813) does not, either. So the connection between the Abner, Jedediah and Josiah of NJ and the Josiah in MD is pretty tenuous. The DAR apparently accepts the connection between the VA & MD Josiahs. The VA Josiah served in the Rev. War. Descendants of the MD Josiah are eligible for membership. But getting back to NJ and CT has me stumped. If anyone has any clues to this puzzle, please let me know. Charnee Smit descendant of Josiah Frost of MD
