Spencer Mead's book has been filmed and is available through the LDS Family History Center System. However, Spencer Mead was not the world's most careful genealogist, so use you salt shaker with it. (for the grain of salt :-) ). The proven Mead line only goes back to about 1515 in Watford, Hertfordshire. This was shown in a relatively recent article in a major genealogical journal.
