Hi Listers, Maybe someone can help me with Pene DAVIS. First of all, "where the heck did she go--<g>?" Here is what I know about Pene: She married Jehiel SMITH, 24 Nov 1768 in Weston, CT,(source D. L. Jacobus). There are two known children, John b. 1769, in NY and George, 12 years younger, also born in NY. John is almost certainly Pene"s son but what about George? I have NO other information on Pene but I know a lot about Jehiel, although about 16 yrs of his life are missing. I have constructed the following time line: ca 1785-Jehiel SMITH, living in Columbia Co. NY, purchased. from Eleazer DEMING, property in Hancock, Berkshire Co. MA. 1791-living in Fairfield, Chittenden Co. VT---(1791 census=1 male over 16, 3 males under 16 and 1 female) 1792-relinquished property he to his brother Ebenezer in Fairfield, CT 1795-sold his Hancock property to his son John---Jan. 1795 (Krunow Collection) 1795-96-removed to the Province of Quebec, Canada There is some information (not proven yet) that Jehiel's wife at this time was named Elizabeth. There is another Jehiel & Elizabeth SMITH, living in Goshen, Addison Co. VT but I don't find a connection. Sooooo, what happened to Pene? Who were her children? Where and when did she die? Pene is an unusual name, is it short for Penelope? A surname? Perhaps, Elizabeth is her middle name. Well, that's it----lots of questions and I hope someone may have some answers or tell me where to find them. As always, I would be happy to share any information that I may have.
