She was the widow of Chester W. (Griffin) who died in 1966. Born in Wigan, England, she lived in the Bridgeport/Milford area most of her life, moving to New Britain in 1994. A member of the first graduating class from Warren Harding High School in Bridgeport, in January 1927. She was office manager at the Gellately Construction Co. in Bridgeport for many years, retiring in 1962. Mrs. Griffin was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in New Britain, the United Methodist Women, and was past president of the Raymond W. Harris Post VFW Auxiliary in Bridgeport. Lily was the cherished mother of two sons, Rev. Richard Griffin and his wife, Vannah, with whom she made her home, and John Griffin and his wife, Pamela of Madison; and three daughters, Norma Cota of Woodbridge, Sandra Ericson of Milford, and Sally Cox and her husband, Kenneth of Duluth, GA. Also surviving is a brother, J. Stanley Wood of Shelton; 11 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and three special friends, Christine Ross of Stratford, Anita Stabler-Hussey of Milford, and Marian Burr of New Britain. She was predeceased by nine brothers and sisters. A Memorial Celebration of her life will be held Saturday, May 5, 11 a.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, 69 Main St., New Britain, with Rev. Richard Yerrington officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church.
