The Fairfield County Temporary Home housed orphan children and wards of the state in Danbury. I don't know its years of operation, but my grandfather Harold BOWERS was there from 1904 - 1915. It seems to have been in existence at least until the late 30s. Some years ago, we contacted a state agency (perhaps Children and Families...the number for foster care & adoption is 800-338-9667; you could start there). While we were told that my grandfather's records for his stay in the Home could not be found, there were other family records on file, and the very cooperative man who helped us sent copies of what files he had. This information has been of immense help to us. Some of my grandfather's siblings were recorded to have later been in "wage homes," one in Brookfield and one in Ridgefield. This is a term I don't know the meaning of...if anyone does, please let me know. If anyone has information on the BOWERS family, or the Fairfield County Temporary Home in Danbury, please contact me...I would like to know more. Beverly, I hope this is of help to you.
