A few pages survived but none for Connecticut. One subsititution for the 1890 Census, if your ancestors lived in a large town, is the city directory. This is a good subsititution for Bridgeport, but it only lists the head of household; no family members. Catherine Reuther

Her father, James S. Bouton, was born in Bridgeport, CT Dec. 25, 1927. He was married to Miriam C. Bouton. His father was James Raymond Bouton and his mother was Jennie Harriet Whdyker. This information is from a death certificate for James S. Bouton. Another death certfifcate, which I assume is for the grandfather of James S. Bouton, is for Stanley Bouton, b. Aug 25, 1868 in Stamford CT, d. July 2, 1960 (buried in Long Hill Burying Ground in Trumbull, m. Nancy Green. I could not find his name or Nancy's in the Long Hill index. Stanley Bouton's father was Ebenezer Bouton, who was born in CT, possibly in the 1840s. Can anyone help me with this family? I searched the Fairfield County GenWeb and had no luck. Thanks much. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/TZ.2ADE/4837.2 Message Board Post: Hi, Berit Have you requested a birth certificate yet on your father from Bridgeport? They are $5 - to be paid in money order only (International money order in US funds). On birth certificates they will have your grandfather's occupation and occassionally the full address of residence, sometimes just the street, sometimes just the town (residence town might differ form the town of birth). Also your grandmother's maiden name (if you don't already have it) will be on there and your grandparents's ages. Do you know when your grandparents came to the US? Your father was born & moved in between US Census recording, so he won't be on a US Census record, but perhaps his parents are if they were in the US in 1890. The only problem is, I myself just posted a query on if there are 1890 Census records available to the public because I don't know that they are out there, though if there is an 1880 Census record and 1900 and beyond, I would think there would be an 1890 record somewhere to be viewed. Good Luck!

Of all the Clauson researchers I've met, there is no information on her parents. In 2003, I paid a visit to the Stamford Historical Society library and met the man who wrote the Stamford Bibliography and "Thou Deservest to Dye", the account of Elizabeth's trial. He said there is no record of her parents or her grave. Ironically, there was another Clauson researcher in the library the same day I was there. She said there was speculation that Elizabeth was a former indentured servant from France (as her accuser Kate Branch was as well) - so I offered the suggestion that perhaps Elizabeth's last name was actually "Piermont". I have no proof, but do believe this could be her true surname. The other researcher also felt that theory was a good one. But much research is needed. Val

I find this a lot with my German ancestors. Most people in the US are called by their first name, so once the immigrants got to the US, or even with the first generation born here, their names “changed” and their middle name became their first name. So in the US your grandfather probably was known as John August Anderson. In 1895 Bridgeport City Directory: There are several John Anderson’s, and I picked the most promising. Delaware is another US state, on the coast between New Jersey and Maryland. I do not live in Bridgeport so cannot help with any other records that are there such as city directories for other years, newpapers, birth records, and so on. You may want to post another query for John August Anderson. Also, if you put his name in the Subject line you may get more responses to your query. If you find someone who can check the 1897-1898 directories they may show a John Anderson that moved back to Sweden. Send me an email directly if I have help any more.
