New York is charging $30.00 --more than the $27 it costs for a social security application copy! Fairfield not only sent the two certificates but also a copy from their book. Tennessee is the worst I've ever dealt with.

Danbury has an excellent library section on genealogy. They have the directories you will need to research but call or contact the town clerk of Newtown as ask where they were published. Even though Danbury is close to Newtown the City Directories could have been published in a different town. I am dealing with Sherman, New Fairfield and Norwalk. I have found by making a few phone calls that people in Connecticut are very helpful. Also try the Family History Center and website www.familysearch.org. There will be a listing of all City Directories of Newtown, I remember using these microfilms.

I found my grandmothers date of death this way and also could trace where my ancestors lived and if they moved to a different area. Anything after 1939 will not give you this information as City Directories became telephone directories. In some states no directories were not published during WWII. Another way town clerk office as they will do a 10 year search for you. I have had very good luck with this but I knew a time period to search. The death certificates in Connecticut are still $5. A lot of the state are know rising their cost of any death, marriage or birth records. I hope this is some help and you can contact me if you need further direction.

Samual Nichols and Millicent Darrow were married in the Wilton Congregational Church in Wilton, Fairfield Co., CT. The library in Wilton has a photocopy of these records from which I personally extracted this information. This couple never lived in or near New Haven. This is someone's erroneous attempt to link this couple to a location. I did not find a son by the name of Timothy in these records, and I do not believe that he is associated with them. It has been nearly a decade since I worked on this line, but I am sure that the couple only had two children: Jesse & Samuel. Timothy is no doubt from one of the other Samuel Nicols of that time period living in CT (perhaps the one folks associated with New Haven). That is my best intel on the topic. I currently have the 1939 National Guard/Naval Militia/Governors Guard Yearbook for CT. It is not indexed, so I would need to know if there were any other towns he could be listed under. He didn't appear under the Battery C 2nd Battalion,192nd Field Artillary,Norwalk,CT where both my grandfathers were. There names were Benjamin Ruedemann and John James Straub. I do have many connections to Norwalk but do not currently live there. I may go visit relatives in the near future and would be happy to send you a printed photo through snail mail as I do not own a digital camera yet. Please send me a separate email with your address and any other info you know such as location within the cemetery. I am not sure when I can accomplish this but if you can't get it any other way let me know. Also, if you need the phone number or other info on St. John's I can probably get that very easily for you.
