If Ms. Peck is taking a sabbatical until illegal immigration stops, I hope she has passed on all of her research to a younger family member, because she may have to wait until ..... freezes over. Ed from Monroe

Color me silly, but doesn't this seem a bit inappropriate for this mailing list? I appreciate Ms. Peck letting us know that she is taking a sabbatical. However, her reasons are political and although I support her right to do as she chooses, her e-mail seems to presume that I-- as a member of this list--share her political position. I do not. Just a thought. Sarah The email was informative for those that know and love their fellow Genealogist. Her reason was not necessary, but it made me feel better to know it was not because of an illness. As to her cause, I think all of us owe it to our Ancestors to make this a better America, so I say GO FOR IT! And while we are at it - let's all be a little more tolerant of one another. Norma
For as much as I have loved genealogy for the last seven years, I must say goodbye to my research for now. I've come to realize that after researching my Peck ancestors and finding out about the wars they were in like the American Revolution and the War of 1812, that they were fighting for the country that we now have. I've learned to have so much respect for my ancestors and to really appreciate their lives, even if they were farmers who became Militia men at a moments notice. Right now, the best way for me to help my country is not by researching their lives any longer, but to honor them by following in their footsteps and becoming a Minuteman. Our country is in a major crisis right now with the illegal immigration problems that we have and I didn't realize how bad it was until I actually started looking into it. All of my ancestors were immigrants at one point and like everyone else, had to go through the legal process of entering America. If they were sick when they arrived, they were not permitted to leave the ship. If they were without a job, they were made indentured servants to pay off the cost of coming here and to learn a trade. I'm tired of hearing about illegal immigrants coming into My country, accepting welfare, bringing their diseases, refusing to use birth control, stealing, & most of all, I'm tired of hearing "Press 1 for English." One set of my gg grandparents came over from Germany around 1870 and had to learn English to survive here. They had to learn to abide by the laws of America and had to provide their own income. There were no handouts. For the last seven years, I have non-stopped researched my family tree and for the last two years, I have transcribed numerous vital records and have posted thousands of messages with information on your ancestors. I will still honor any lookup requests that I have out there from the dozen genealogy books that I own. When I feel like our borders are more secure, I will eagerly resume my genealogy research. Until then, you can find me on the Minuteman message boards under the name of "BaskeLady." _http://forum.minutemanhq.com/phpBB2/index.php?sid=1bdd917071c15d6b17caba2d03e 343c2_ (http://forum.minutemanhq.com/phpBB2/index.php?sid=1bdd917071c15d6b17caba2d03e343c2) I ask just one thing of everyone on this list, please sign the petition to secure our borders. _http://www.minutemanhq.com/pet_hr1986/index.php_ (http://www.minutemanhq.com/pet_hr1986/index.php) Joyce Peck, Corpus Christi, Texas
I am looking for the availability online or elsewhere of the 1st Congregational Church Records of New Fairfield, CT, for what is called the North region, around Sherman. I have found the the New Fairfield Cong. Church records for the South region, including Danbury on the New Fairfield site transcribed by Barbara, which is a wonderful aid to all researchers in that area. I am aware that the North region records are at the NEHG society but I can't visit there even tho it would be a fabulous thrill to do so. I am open to other ideas and suggestions. Many thanks, ...Jo
Hello Ann, Your ancestor was a pastor of the Black Rock Congregational Church once located on Ellsworth Street in Black Rock (Bridgeport) and now located on Black Rock Turnpike in Fairfield. There is extensive information about him at the church web site including photos of him, his wife, and daughter Winifred (MacDowell) Borgman. Here is the URL for the document: http://www.brcc.org/resources/File/ourhistory.pdf Hope this helps! I am searching for the family of Charles S. MacDowell.I have tracked him through the Federal Census records to 1930 where he is in Bridgeprot Conn. and a minister of the Congregational Church. I am trying to find a living member of the family. Unfortuniately, he and his wife Sadie only had 2 girls and by 1930 Ruth was the only one home with her parents. She was a teacher in the public school system in Bridgeport the census report says. Can anyone tell me more about this family. When Charles may have died, and where he may be buried, etc. If Ruth got married and what her name may have been. There was another daughter in 1920 Census and her name was Winifred but by 1930 she is married or dead. Any help welcome. Thank you, Ann Brown -- Ann Brown " Cookie"
I am hoping someone can help with Samuel Pennoyer's wife who was listed ast Mary E in census records. Per the census Samuel was born in 1844 and Mary E. was born in 1855. Both stated they were born in Connecticut. Samuel was the son of Lewis Pennoyer (B 1803) and I believe that Lewis' father was Samuel Pennoyer. Would anyone know if Samuel is Isaac's father? Mary E stated that her mother was born in New York and her father in Connecticut. Mary was still alive in the 1930 census of New Canaan. They had three children that I know of, Louis Clifton, Harry Light and Mary Alice. There are two questions I have...Does anyone know Mary E's maiden name and secondly is there an index to deaths in Fairfield county where I could find out when Mary E died. I am hoping that her death certificate would show who her parents were. Also would anyone have any additional information on this family? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks John Schneider Charleston South Carolina

Charles Robert Anderson lists the following wives in Nicholas Knapp's biographical sketch in his 1995 work *The Great Migration Begins: Immigrants to New England 1620-1633*: MARRIAGE: (1) By 1631 Elinor _____; she d. Stamford 16 August 1658 [TAG 10:45]. (2) Stamford 9 March 165[8/]9 Unica (_____) (Buxton) Brown [TAG 10:113]. She was widow of Clement Buxton and Peter Brown [Gillespie Anc 61-63], and had apparently died by 15 April 1670, as she is not mentioned in her third husband's will. I have also seen her listed as possibly Elinor/Eleanor Lockwood, but with no documentation why this was the case. Sandy

Hi, Since there is a discussion about the Knapp line and I go back to Nicholas also, through his son Joshua b. 5 Jan 1635/36, does anyone know the name of the wife to Nicholas and the mother of the children.? I have seen the name Elnior Lockwood, but I have not found proof? If anyone knows and could help lead me to the source, I would appreciate it. Thank you, Allene Trowbridge Hintz
Perhaps someone on the list has additional information about my Knapp ancestors. Several Knapps have been the subject of messages in the last week. I have tried to find some mutual Knapp connections in the informative website that Barbara de Mare listed in her email to the list on June 21 for the Phillips-Knapp Family Association: http://www2.tribalpages.com/tribe/browse?userid=phillipsknapp&rand=313452390- The only common ancestor I have found so far is Richard Osborn (b ca 1612), father of Hannah Osborne (b. 1640). Hannah's sister Sarah Osborn (Peat/Peet) was my eighth great grandmother. I have not yet been able to find a connection between my Knapp ancestors and the Knapps listed in the messages, perhaps because my female Knapp ancestors married into the Ferris and Mead families in the 1600s. My earliest recorded Knapp ancestor was Nicholas Knapp (born between 1605-1610 in England; died 1670 in Stamford , Fairfield County, Connecticut). According to my records, I am descended from two of his children: Caleb [b. 1636-1637 in Watertown, Massachusetts; died between 1670-1677 in Fairfield County - married Hannah Smith (b. 1642, Stamford) ca 1660] and Ruth [b. 1641 in Watertown; died aft 1711 in Greenwich, Connecticut - married Joseph Ferris (b. 1635) in 1657]. Caleb's daughter Sarah Knapp (b. 1670 in Stamford) married Ebenezer Mead (b. 1663 in Greenwich ) in 1691. Ruth's daughter Ruth Ferris (b. 1659 in Greenwich) married Samuel Peck (b. 1659) in 1686. I would appreciate any additional information.
