Posted on: Fairfield Co. Ct Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ct/Fairfield/3235 Surname: Hawley, Marr, Duguid, Sawyers, Archie, Clifford ------------------------- Hi all, I'm trying to find anyone connected to the above family members (past and present). A distant relative: a Jean Marr Hawley wrote to my gt grandfather: Rev Archibald Marr of Glasgow, Scotland in the 1940's enquiring about her Scottish roots. I think she would have been his niece, being a daughter of his brothe James G Marr who had emmigrate to America with his dfamily and a few other of his brothers and sisters. Most landed in Watchhill, Westerley, Rhode Island. I have her letters which were addressed from the Stratfield Hotel, Hartford, Ct., which I have since been informed is now an old folks home with no records available on former guests. I wonder if anyone canshed any light on these branches of my family. By the way I posted a query on Sat 20th Feb. 1999 under my then married name of Karen Macdonald..so if anyone replied to that I would not have received it, due to unforeseen circumstances. many thanks, Karen in Bonnie Scotland
Posted on: Fairfield Co. Ct Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ct/Fairfield/3234 Surname: KNAPP ------------------------- In documents I am working with there are references to a Y. (possibly a Z.) Knapp . This man was from Stamford and served as a soldier at Fort Groton in 1814. Probably the 37th Regiment, Infantry. E. Huntington lists a Reuben Knapp but no Y. or Z. Knapp. Does anyone have a record of a a Y. Knapp living in Stamford who would have been old enough to serve in the army in 1814? Also, a handwriting question---was it common in early nineteenth century handwriting for capital Y's to resemble capital Z's? Thanks, Jonathan Dryden
