    3. Posted on: Fairfield Co. Ct Query Forum Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Ct/Fairfield/3272 Surname: Williams ------------------------- I don't know if you've been following the thread, but I was curious about how you're related to James Williams. I am a great-granddaughter of his brother, Anson. But beyond his parents I know nothing about the Williams side. I've always suspected that Richard Williams is related somehow to the Williams family in Kent Cliffs, but can't find the connection. I do have more information about James and his siblings if you're interested.

    1. [CTFAIRFI] Bailey's of Putnam County
    2. Nancy Moore
    3. Posted on: Fairfield Co. Ct Query Forum Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Ct/Fairfield/3271 Surname: Bailey ------------------------- I don't have any information on your William Baileys', but Maria Bailey was a sister of my Calista Bailey, and therefore, Emma Jane Light and James Williams were first cousins. Gilbert Light (it says Leight on his tombstone) and Maria are buried in the Bailey plot in the Methodist cemetery in Brewster. Nancy and Mary Jane Bailey were sisters and daughters of Samuel Bailey by his second wife, Hannah Wright. I understand that the Bailey who joined with Barnum was from the Midwest and adopted his surname from a Bailey that he worked for in Putnam county. But numerous Baileys worked in the circus trade, and Hecaliah Bailey brought the first elephant into the United States and exhibited him around the country. He named the elephant "Old Bet" after his wife and also used him at the hotel he founded called the Elephant Inn (still exists). Hecaliah's daughter, another Calista, took over and ran the Elephant Inn. Her husband was Enoch Crosby, Jr, son of Enoch Crosby, the spy, and made famous by James Fenimore Cooper. Hope this helps. The is a lot of information about the Baileys, and the Bailey Family Association has a book.

    1. [CTFAIRFI] Laborie family-early Fairfield
    2. Linda & John Myers
    3. Hi All A while back Evelyn Boran wrote about the Laborie family of early Fairfield: <Ann was the daughter of Dr. James Laborie and Jeanne Resseguie. This is <what Jacobus says about James In Families of Old Fairfield 1:371: < Chirurgeon, Port Royal Expedition, Aug 1710; Chaplain on the transport <brigantine Mary; Lt. Fairfield Co. Troop, May 1714 Completed study of theology in Academy of Geneva, 1688; ordained at Zurich; went to England and officiated in French churches of London; came to America in 1698; ministered to French colony in New Oxford, MA; then had charge of French church in New York, 1704 to 1706. Then engaged in the practice of medicine; then removed to Stratford. On 12 Apr. 1711, expecting to be called to serve in the war, he appointed his brother Anthony Laborie of Guilford, 'Gentleman and Chyrurgeon', trustee for his wife Mary, with whom he had received a considerable estate in marriage. [Stratford Deeds.] Will of James of Fairfield, 'Phisition', 17 Mar 1730/1, proved 4 May 1731. Left all instruments of chirurgery and all his French writings to son James. Bequest to son John 'if he Comes again'. Daus. Ann, Jeanne, Mary; grandson John <Laborie; wife Mary, sole Exec'x <I'm descended from Benjamin Banks through his first wife <Evelyn Beran -------------------------------------- I have a LABORIE in my collateral line: Deborah HYDE sister to my ancestor Elihu HYDE married a Dr John Laborie b 23 June 1723. In my notes I have of Ripton son of Dr James Laborie of Ripton; grandson of Dr James Laborie, Sr early physician of Fairfield It would seem from Jacobus as quoted above that my Dr John Laborie is the grandson John mentioned in the will of Dr. James Laborie; and also son of Jeanne Resseguie. Anyone else have any further info on this family to substantiate this relationship. Linda Phoenix AZ

    2. Glen Shelton
    3. Posted on: Fairfield Co. Ct Query Forum Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Ct/Fairfield/3270 Surname: ------------------------- Thanks for the response. It leads to other questions, of course. I have another Bailey, contemporary of Peleg and Samuel, and wonder if you can place him for me. He is William Bailey, and he married Mary Barrett 9/30/1774. How about Nancy Bailey, born 4/7/1807 in Brewster, and married Ira Cole 3/10/1826, and Mary Jane Bailey, born 12/8/1808 in Brewster and married Ira's brother Charles Green Cole 2/6/1830? Or Maria Bailey, 1831-1870 of Brewster, who married Gilbert Light? Or William Perkerson Bailey, who married Lucy Alverson? (their daughter Nelly married Ferris Rogers Gay, who was born 7/11/1848 in Patterson.) I am finding the Baileys and Lights becoming intertwined. Are these Baileys related to the circus Bailey? I know the circus Barnum (Phineas T.) was from the same general area. I have more questions, but this is probably already too many. Thanks.
