Ct Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ct/Fairfield/13253 Surname: Waring ------------------------- I'm trying to locate where Peter Waring was born about 1808. I was told by a relative it could be in this area. He had a sister Anne and brother Ramsom I have also been told. I'm at a brick wall. I know that a Ramson was living with them when Peter moved to Madison Co. New York and married Delia Burton at age 39. Does anyone have any Waring that could have a Peter born about this time in Fairfield Co.

3. The Fairfield County Temporary Home housed orphan children and wards of the state in Danbury. I don't know its years of operation, but my grandfather Harold BOWERS was there from 1904 - 1915. It seems to have been in existence at least until the late 30s. Some years ago, we contacted a state agency (perhaps Children and Families...the number for foster care & adoption is 800-338-9667; you could start there). While we were told that my grandfather's records for his stay in the Home could not be found, there were other family records on file, and the very cooperative man who helped us sent copies of what files he had. This information has been of immense help to us. Some of my grandfather's siblings were recorded to have later been in "wage homes," one in Brookfield and one in Ridgefield. This is a term I don't know the meaning of...if anyone does, please let me know. If anyone has information on the BOWERS family, or the Fairfield County Temporary Home in Danbury, please contact me...I would like to know more. Beverly, I hope this is of help to you. Let me know if you need anything more. 3. Posted on: Fairfield Co. Ct Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ct/Fairfield/13246 Surname: Dann ------------------------- Hamilton and Lola, I have Danns in Orange County, NY, buried in Highland Falls (Hamilton, do you know where this graveyard is? I don't. That's all the info I have on the location of the graveyard.) On my husband's side, Betsey Dann, b. 9/4/1777, d. 12/5/1857, m. 6/19/1796 to Daniel Slauson, they had children Nathan Dann Slauson, as well as Daniel, Maria, Alanson, Betsey Ann, George, Diantha, Emily, Erastus and Elizabeth. We don't know who Betsey's parents are, but think her father could be one of the Nathan Danns (I know there were at least two) as one of their children bears that name. Can either of you help? My husband is from Cornwall, so we go there every year or so and I'd love to connect with the graves of these folks. Hamilton, if you are able to give directions to the graveyard(s) in Highland Falls, I'm sure my husband could figure it out. Thanks for all your help! Susie Scofield

1. [CTFAIRFI] New reference cards posted to my website
2. Rod Dav4is
3. Sorry for the cross posting, but it does save me a heap of time. ;o) I've recently posted some reference cards on my website that may be useful to some of you. I print them of 4x6 cards and keep them right next to my PC. I use them many times daily. The page: http://dav4is.8m.com/Cards/ (This may be a bit slow in loading, so please be patient!) Summary of the contents: * Two letter standard postal codes for the US states and territories, and Canadian provinces and territories. * Three letter abbreviations for British Isles counties: Channel Isles, England, Ireland, Scotland, Ulster (N. Ireland), Wales. These are the pre-1974 codes, no longer in postal usage, but fine for genealogical work. * Ahnentafel facts and powers of two table. Shows why the numbering scheme is so useful. * Hex-to-Decimal and Decimal-to-hex conversions. Useful for working with the HTML color codes, etc. * Common paper sizes, both US and metric: names, dimensions, aspect ratios. I think I got 'em all! * Special characters. The codes you need to enter on your PC to get such things as English pounds (£), the Euro (€), accented characters (éèÅ) -- if you don't have your keyboard set up to the specific national. These are the same numbers you use in HTML as, for example, "¶" to get the paragraph symbol "¶". I hope someone gets some use out of them! -- Regards, Rod Dav4is / P.O. Box 118 / Hyde Park, NY 12538 / USA Genealogy, et Cetera: http://dav4is.8m.com 188 ancestral families, mostly 17th-19th century New England, total population: 48,089

1. [CTFAIRFI] Jared Mead/e
2. Hello, I received the following and was given permission to share it with you: In a message dated 2/23/01 3:21:54 PM, Page02 writes: << I am the president of the Fairfax County Historical Society. We are attempting to save the home of a Jared Meade, a mid-19th c. home on 20 plus acres which the developer would like to demolish. I am looking for any information on either Jared Mead or Hiram Fuller both of Fairfield Co., CT. They moved to Fairfax Co., VA. in 1844. I have no information about him after that date. Mead's wife's name was Hannah, Fuller's wife was Lydia. The two men were partners. Hiram Fuller, was the Editor of the local newspaper (the "Fairfax News") and the first in the county. Shortly after they arrived in Fairfac they purchased land and operated a grist mill and saw mill together. The Fairfax County deed records state "Jared Mead and Hiram Fuller, of Fairfield County, Connecticut." In 1851 Fuller died. His obituary in the Alexandria (VA) Gazette states he was born in South Salem (Westchester Co.), New York. Not too far from Fairfield, CT. The point is Mead may have also been from New York. One more thing, I have discovered a Hiram Fuller who was the owner and editor of the New York Evening News at about the same time frame (1840's & 1850's). Could this be the same man? If you have any information on either man I would be most appreciative. Regards, Page Johnson (703) 273-6130 >> I did find Jared in the Mead H & G as son of Libbeus, son of Eliphalet, son of my 8th great-uncle Benjamin Mead, son of John Mead, Sr., of Greenwich I referred Mr. Johnson to the Greenwich Historical Society in Cos Cob, as it has a large collection of Mead family history. I hope that if you descend from the JARED line, you will contact Mr. Johnson and find out about the drive to save his house in Fairfax, VA.
