According to Irma Mae Griffen's book "History of the Town of Roxbury" Nathaniel Mead showed up in Roxbury about the same time as my Abner Mead. I have not been able to tie Abner to any other Meads other than his children. After finding the information below, I believe there has got to be a close connection with Abner and Nathaniel. **************************** ¹Nathanial Mead | ²Leonard W.Mead | children of Leonard: * i Mary Paulina ii Alfred F. * iii Reuben T. iv John F. * v James M. vi Henry H. vii Mary E. viii Garner C. ix Ellen x Nancy J. xi Nathanial * xii Hiram M. ********************************** ¹Abner Mead | \ ² Eli Mead also son * ²James* | children of Eli: i Phebe * ii Reuben iii Ada * iv Hiram v Charlotte * vi Mary Paulina vii Rheuama viii Jefferson ix Lucinda x Cyrus Ok so James is quite common, and maybe even Reuben and Hiram, but MARY PAULINA Can anyone help me tie these families together other than common names? Thanks, Grasping!
http://www.shoestringcreations.com/SimsburyLibrary/notecard.htm In case someone may have missed my last posting, the Simsbury Genealogical Historical Research Library is selling notecards with an artist's rendering of the gate of the big cemetery in the heart of Simsbury. The proceeds are going to help finance the cemetery book project that will soon be completed. They will soon be out of the notecards and be withdrawing the offer, so I wanted to mention it again. The cards are beautiful and worth the price. Claudia Garner Wakeman, OH

Crissey, son of John Crissey. Since many of my family lived in Stamford, Connecticut, it is likely that John Crissey lived there. I believe that his sister was married to Sands Sylvester Bishop of Noroton, my great grandfather. There was an Aunt Josie, but I do notknow her last name. I have been searching for information on the family, also.

Hi List, I am having a real problem finding where my paternal grandparents were married. They were married Nov. 19, 1904. The bride (Georgianna Murdoch) was born in Danbury, CT (1887) grew up there, worked in the Lee Hat co. where she met The Groom (Byron Hopkins) was born in NY (his ancestors came from Carmel, Mahopac, NY) and Byron lived in Danbury for 70 years (About 1876) Now - Danbury, CT; Bethel, CT and Carmel, NY have "no record of marriage". She was 17 1/2 and he was 30. I think she may have been 4 months pregnant (had child born April 1905). Was there a happening, romantic place that they would have gone to to get married? Any thoughts or help on this matter would be most appreciated. It is starting to drive me buggy. Bonnie K.
I thot I would try and look up LOBDELL for one CTFairfi lister and I think I sorta found the answer for another...concerning the place, "Reading, CT." Well atleast that there is/was a "Reading" in CT. On ancestry.com i saw this: John Sherwood 1740 Of Reading, Fairfield, CT 1825 , , , 1770 , , Abigail Lobdell John Sherwood Hannah Moorehouse And I'm going back to see if I can find Joseph, Burrall, or any other possible link.
My ancestor's (Maria Barnum) place of birth given in her son's obituary says she was born in Redding,CT(actually it said Reading) in 1815. I have checked with the town clerk & she could not have been born there. I am wondering if anyone can point to a likely place which may have been lumped in with Redding in 1815, or if anyone could tell me if Reading is another place altogether. Thank you, Marla Kaste

Morever, is he the same Joseph who married Lydia Brown?? in N.Y. and relocated in Washington Co.Ohio in 1816? They had three children--Annis--Lewis--Mary. Julia Harrison Lobdell's book mentions that a DR.Chichester treated him at his home but little else is known of this Joseph. >How easy was travel between Greenwich CT and Bedford, NY, back >around 1810-1820? Were there strong links between the towns? On July 1, 1640, Englishman Captain Nathanial Turner purchased land from the Indian Sagamores, Ponus and Wascussue. It included Stamford, Pound Ridge, parts of Darien, New Canaan, North Castle, Bedford, and Lewisboro. A settlement at Stamford, CT was begun in 1641. New Haven Colony confirmed to the people of Stamford the lands that became Bedford and other portions of Westchester Co. In the early years of its settlement, the land that became Pound Ridge was under the jurisdiction of North Castle. Bedford was first formed under Connecticut, in May 1697. Its rights were confirmed by New York in April 1704 and it was fully organized as a town March 7, 1788. Bedford, Poundridge and New Rochelle were settled by the people of Stamford, CT. New Amsterdam and later NY disputed Connecticut's claim that this land belonged to them. The dispute between NY and CT over juridiction continued for over a century. This confusion was finally setled in the mid 1800's. "The Stamford tract, originally bought by the Colony of New Haven, was later transferred to the Colony of Connecticut, and then to the Province of New York."s In 1731, Bedford and Rye were transferred from CT to NY. Posted on: Fairfield Co. Ct Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ct/Fairfield/13256 Surname: GORMLEY, GOODWIN, McGINN, JACOBSON ------------------------- Hello, I am trying to find a date of death and burial for my great-uncle. Frank Gormley was born 4 Aug 1905 in NYC. He was the son of Frank Gormley and Kate McGinn Goodwin. He served in WW II in the army and was last seen in 1948 in NYC at his brother-in-law's funeral. There is no record of him with the VA and Social Security has no record of his death and no record of his ever collecting benefits. He would have been 65 in 1970. Therefore, I assume that he probably died before 1963 and definitely before 1971. At the time of the funeral Frank was living with his aunt Mary(Gormley) Jacobs(on) of New Canaan, CT. The family was Catholic. I assume Frank is either buried in NYC at Calvary or in New Canaan. --Kevin
How easy was travel between Greenwich CT and Bedford, NY, back around 1810-1820? Were there strong links between the towns? I'm tracing the Jimmerson family and they seem to bounce between the two towns as if they were walking into the next room, but on the map the towns don't seem that close together. Yet when I look at the alleged birthplaces of the Jimmerson brothers, one was born in NY, the next in CT, then the next back in NY. Marilyn Angelo (tracing the elusive Jimmerson family: Josiah Field Jimmerson, Nehemiah Sherwood Jimmerson, William Jimmerson, Robert J. Jimmerson, Charles Jimmerson, John Jimmerson, and Allen Jimmerson) Marilyn Angelo mangelo@binghamton.edu
Hi, Could anyone tell me what Greenwich newspapers were in existence in 1953? I would like to look up the obituary for my grandfather, James Michael Tomney. He died September 1953 (I don't know the day). If anyone is going to the Greenwich library, I would be happy to compensate you for your time/gas to do the look up for me. Thanks for your help. Laura
