Posted on: Fairfield Co. Ct Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ct/Fairfield/13312 Surname: DAVIS, FITCH, WRIGHT ------------------------- I'm almost positive that you will find that Silver Hill on Valley Rd. is the one you are looking for. It later became a place for the rich and famous to come for a "rest" or substance abuse program. I believe it is still is business. Good luck.
The Church you are looking for in the Tashua section of Trumbull, Ct is Christ Episcopal Church 5170 Madison Ave Trumbull, Ct 06611 Two phone numbers are listed: (203) 268-5566 and (203) 261-5778 this being the number of the social hall. I'd try the first number. The church has been around for a long time and has an old cemetery on the property. I believe the Trumbull Historical Society has information regarding folks in the cemetery. You can try them at Trumbull Historical Society 1856 Huntington Turnpike Trumbull, CT 06611 (203) 377-6620 Also, I have the book "They Face the Rising Sun" by E. Merrill Beach. This lists the folks in Unity Cemetery which is the oldest Cemetery in Trumbull. While Unity is on the opposite side of town from the Tashua church I would be glad to look up a name for you to see if there is any reference in the book. Trumbull, Ct is a relatively small town (35,000 people or so) and most of the older families have been well researched. If the family you are researching lived in town for some time the Historical society should have something on them. What Trumbull are you researching? Good luck with your research and let me know if I can do anything else to help. Please feel free to contact me off list at RichardRoof@earthlink.net or roofrick@aol.com.
There is an Episcopal Church in Tashua which I used to attend sometimes years ago. It should be easy to find it. I lived a couple of towns away, up on a hill, and I could see the church from the upstairs window. I always knew it as Tashua Church, but I don't know if it had another name. Beth

Brennan, spent several months in a TB hospital soon after he was ordained in 1912. According to my source, the hospital may have been located in New Canaan, Fairfield County, CT. I know there was a TB sanatarium in Shelton, CT. Was there also one in New Canaan during that time period? I would appreciate any info on this subject. Please email me at lmpetit@home.com. Thanks!

I don't recall the family name on the stone but I believe it is suppose to be the center family stone and the members are buried around it. The gentleman was a dairyman. If you are interested the next time I go there I will get the actual names. Sincerely, Theresa Charpentier ( CatJazzman@aol.com )
Greetings, that will catch the eye of veterans! I am looking for info on McCLOSKEY'S who lived in Danbury, CT and were listed in the census for 1885-1890. Several were at 14 Boughton St. including Annie McCloskey who may have been the mother of my grandmother, Annie McCloskey who married Charles E. Valentine and lived in Norwalk from about 1885 until their deaths in 1910 & 1918. I have info on them, but nothing on their parents or siblings. My grandparents had 7 children in Norwalk. Please help if you can. Norm Valentine
I am hoping someone also connects with Nancy Miriah Bennett b:13 Jun 1815 CT md: 14 Oct 1838 to Nathan Lyon Jackson in Monroe, Newtown Twp, Fairfield Co, CT. It is possible her father's name was Gideon Bennett and her siblings are supposedly - Betsey Bennett (married Mr. Blackman) and Daniel Bennett. I appreciate any help. James

They are both daughters of Capt. Archibald Dunlap (b. 1672 in Scotland) and Mary Beach (b. 1683 in Stratford). This family is noted in Orcutt's "History of Stratford & Bridgeport, Conn." I do not have the particulars, but remember the notation of Elizabeth and her marriage to a Coggeshall.

They are in the historic Tashua (Trumbull) cemetary. There may be information with the pastor of the church on the grounds. They are helpful but slow in gaining access to records. Posted on: Fairfield Co. Ct Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ct/Fairfield/13302 Surname: Blanchard, Cummings ------------------------- "The Modern Woodsmen of the World" is indeed related to "theModern Woodsmen of America", but only due to Joseph Root's dispute in 1890 with the MWA, after which he formed "The Modern Woodsmen of the World". The MWW then prospered in the area South of the Mason Dixon line. The prime goal of both Societies was Insurance, with the benefit of a Fraternal organization. There was over 12,000 Camps (Local Headquarters) in 1890, with these Camps becoming the Social centers of Towns and Communities through Social and Service functions. The Federal Government would advertise in theirNewsletters in order to reach the Maximum amount of citizens with information. There was well over a million members of these organizations in 1911.The I.O.F., International Order of Foresters is a similar organization based in Canada.Thereis Genealogical data to be obtained from theseOrganizations depending on the time frame. Patrick Cummings
Are they related to the Woodmen of the World organization? My dad is involved in that... Jennifer
Hi list Can anyone tell me if there are any churches in and around Tashua (Trumbull) that I can make contact with. I noticed a message that there is a Pastor that might be able to help. I am looking for Summers' and Fairchild's that lived in Tashua in 1780/90. Ct Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ct/Fairfield/13295 Surname: Woodman, Norton, Little ------------------------- Seeking information on William Rackleyft Woodman and wife Caty Norton Woodman who according to family records went to Greenwich in Fairfield County sometime around/after 1820. They were originally from Newburyport, MA and moved to Boston just before 1813 (probably a result of the Great Fire of 1811 in Newburyport). They had three children that we know of: David Hart Woodman, Catharine and Harriet. Emily and Mary (married Andrew Brush) may have been their daughters too.
Posted on: Fairfield Co. Ct Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ct/Fairfield/13292 Surname: Blanchard ------------------------- The Modern Woodmen of America was formed in 1883 as a fraternal life insurance company with its main benefit being life insurance and a side benefit of fellowship. It still exists as I understand. Their address is Modern Woodmen of America, 1701 1st Ave, Rock Island, Illinois, 61201. They have a historian and you very likely will be able to obtain some good information on your ancestor.After1946 less information was maintained as a record, but quite often more detailed information was kept at their local "camp", as the local headquarters was called. You willprobably want to contact the local first if you are aware of there location Patrick Cummings
