Posted on: Fairfield Co. Ct Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ct/Fairfield/13326 Surname: ------------------------- After I posted the other day, I remembered something. Back in the 60s there was also an all-girls Catholic high school in Stamford. I believe it was called Sacred Heart Academy. It's not in existence any more, but the records must be somewhere, perhaps with the diocese office. I know they had yearbooks for each class--my aunt attended there in the 1940s and I recently came across several of hers. The Ferguson Library might have more information about it. Another thing--for years the local paper, the Stamford Advocate, has run lists of all the graduates from each graduating class at each high school. If you could get them to dig up those articles for the years in question, you might find the name you're looking for and then would know what school to check. In fact, if you have the name, perhaps you could send it to me. I knew a lot of families back then and might recognize it. Lois J. elseajay@earthlink.net
It is my understanding that there are no laws in CT requiring funeral homes to keep or divulge any records beyond those required of any business. So, it all depends on the individual home, and how helpful they want to be. Enlisting local aid is helpful; They seem to recognize the desirability of indulging potential clients! I have heard horror stories of retiring funeral directors sending 50 years of records to the dump, or storing boxes and boxes in an old barn, or in a moldy cellar, etc. etc. -R. Hi, Bill, Sorry if I missed your message. Maybe it was because my name is Rod, not Ron? ;o) In any case, the answer to your question is manifold -- but the chief source was one of the WFT CDs. I have groomed that data considerably, however and added some from other sources. The complete bibliography is here: http://dav4is.8m.com/Families/Sources/LINNINGTON.htm I have also uploaded the data to a new venue which I'm beginning to like quite a bit: GenCircles: http://www.gencircles.com/users/dav4is/30 Here you can see the individual source citations. I hope that answers your question. -R. Hi, Folks... As a child, I used to visit friends who, in earlier times, had lived in my hometown of Haddonfield, Camden County, New Jersey. The HUGHES, the father being a very, very tall fellow (!) was Richard HUGHES. I forget his wife's name. He had kids, Mark, Maureen, Christine, Phillip, and perhaps others. They had moved to Rocky Rapids Road in Stamford (or post office Stamford, anyway) in Connecticut. Now I did a couple of phone searches, and see no mention of them. Did any of you know of them, or know where they may be reached now? Online white pages leave something to be desired, as I have found in my genealogical researches! These ones are not actually family, but were *very* close to the family. Thanks, Vince Summers

Or get in touch with the STAMFORD HISTORICAL SOCIETY. They have more information there, than the Library. Bill Wood former Stamford Resident

Posted on: Fairfield Co. Ct Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ct/Fairfield/13319 Surname: ------------------------- Hi, Nick-- I agree with my friend Ed about looking up the high school yearbooks, but have some suggestions to refine your search a little further. I grew up in Stamford around the time your mother did; she probably was about two years older than me. Since you were born at St. Joseph's Hospital and your uncle was a priest, my first guess would be that your birth mom was Catholic and most probably went to Stamford Catholic High School, which is now Trinity Catholic High on Newfield Avenue in Stamford. I would suggest you go back a few years further than Ed suggests; I graduated in 1969 so with the information about her age I would guess your mom graduated in 1967 or 66. Also, check with the Ferguson Library on Broad St. in Stamford to see if they have a phone book or yellow pages or city directory for those years and look up the building contractors. You might be able to match up a last name with someone who graduated from Catholic one of those years. That might get you closer. The library has a very good genealogy section and, I believe, also has a web site (www.fergusonlibrary.? com? gov? org? Try a search engine.) Finally, there are a number of organizations for adoptees trying to locate their families that can give you a lot of suggestions as well as support. One that comes to mind is ALMA (Adoptees Liberty Movement Association) which, I believe, is based in New York City. Good luck! Lois J.
Posted on: Fairfield Co. Ct Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ct/Fairfield/13318 Surname: ------------------------- I saw your post on wanting to find your birth mother and although I'm not from Stamford I can think of some things for you to do to halp narrow your search if you haven't already done them already. In 1969 you had three High Schools in Stamford, Stamford High, Rippawam High and Stamford Catholic. Rippawam doesn't exist anymore I believe and Stamford Catholic was merged with two other Catholic High Schools in the area to form Trinity Catholic. Try to get high school yearbooks from that period for say 1968 & 1969, if anyone looks familar then check the census for 1970 or 1980 on the person in question. Also each of these schools may have had 30 year reunions recently, see if you can track down info on who attended them and perhaps even contact someone who did even if it isn't your birth mother, to garner info.
