Ct Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ct/Fairfield/13473 Surname: Burr, Curtis, Curtiss, Beardsley, Ward, Prudden, Boyce, Cable, Pinckney, Edwards ------------------------- Thanks for your response. One day I hope to visit Fairfield and see the collection of the Fairfield Historical Society. Another researcher sent me a very nice lineage and descendant outline for Joanna Burr, and also confirmed that she was related to Aaron Burr - Aaron Burr was the great-grandson of Joanna Burr's father by his first marriage. The surnames above appear in his line, or in their mutual lines.

Posted on: Fairfield Co. Ct Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ct/Fairfield/13472 Surname: WARD, SMITH, MCGILLIVRAY ------------------------- The BURR name is quiet famous in the town of Fairfield. You might contact the Fairfield Historical Society at 203-259-1598. They are just down the street from the 'Burr Mansion'. The society has a very large set of documents on early Fairfield. With Joanna BURR born in 1676, she was probably the second generation born in Fairfield. The original settlement was only 12 families. BURR I believe was one of them. The historical society has a 'map' of the original lots with names of families in each plot.
Through the help of the census lookup lists I have enough information on my American relations to ask now for your help. John Littlejohn born circa 1839 and his wife Mary Balloch Littlejohn born Dec 1840 came to the US in 1872 and appear to have settled in Norwalk shortly before the 1880 census. They had seven children, Jean (or Jennie) Graham Littlejohn born March 1864, Jessie born circa 1865, James born 1866, Mary Balloch L. born Feb 1869, Elizabeth Macfarlane L. born Oct 1870, (all in Scotland) Craigie or Craig born circa 1874 NJ, and Agnes born circa 1877 NY. The ages in the 1880 and 1900 censuses don't quite match up, I think the girls dropped a few years off their ages. However as near as I can tell, the years born are as above. In the 1880 census they are all there, John and the oldest two girls were working in a shirt factory. In the 1900 census John, James and Elizabeth are absent. My greataunt had told me that Elizabeth married and had a family, but she didn't know her married name. I am assuming Elizabeth married before 1900. John may have died before 1900, although Mary appears to be described as "married" (it's hard to differentiate between an M and a W). I assume James moved to somewhere else, the census claims that Mary's 7 children are all living. Perhaps he also married although he may just have had the urge to explore the US. What I am looking for is anything that anyone can find on any of the above, particularly marriages, burials, obits etc - also if anyone knows anything about shirt factories in Norwalk I would be interested (by 1900, two of the girls were inspectors and one was a forewoman. Craig was a grocery salesman and Agnes was a violin teacher) I have a fond hope of one day meeting a distant American cousin, so am trying to trace these families (a brother of Mary settled in Iowa) to the present day. I found that some vital records of Norwalk are available on microfilm at the LDS. Will order this if no-one can help me, but it will take a long time to arrive and only goes up to 1908 so probably won't have everything I'm looking for. Very grateful for any help anyone can offer Catherine Fitchett Christchurch, New Zealand cfitchett@netaccess.co.nz

Maybe it is CT, but the Ct Soc of Genealogists have always had at least one person in every town to do research for out of staters and the charge the last time i did it was $10. and I am sure it has gone up. I'd like Valerie's email addy. I live two towns away and need a record in Bridgeport, but the city is so dangerous, I won't drive in there and would rather pay someone to go for me. Been mugged there already and my boyfriend was pistol whipped getting money out of his bank. I would be able to got this obit for you. The fee would be 15.00 to cover copies, gas and parking charges. If interested please let me know, I would be able to go down to Bridgeport on tues the 29th. Lindy
If you have a CT Society of Genealogist card or a couple of others from this area you can go in and look, if not the clerk will get if for you. There is really little info in records this old. I would instead go to the state library in Hartford and look through the books and card file myself. I am planning on going to the Ridgefield Court house in the next week or two to try to find some sort of notation about the birth of an ancestor in 1755. Would someone tell me if I would be able to look at the actual books myself as there are others that I would also be interested in. In some court houses the clerk does the lookup which really restricts our access. Thank you very much >> Lindy
Trying to find information on Albert Finch born 1755 in Amenia, Dutchess Co., NY, son of Benjamin and Sarah Knapp Finch of the line of John Finch of Fairfield Co. Believe Albert is the same Albert who later appears in Canadice, Ontario Co., NY and is the possible ancestor of Mary Finch born 1787 who married Andrew Hampton. Looking for any info on ancestry, descendants, of Albert and Mary. Thanks for any help on these lines! _______________________________________________________ Send a cool gift with your E-Card http://www.bluemountain.com/giftcenter/

Posted on: Fairfield Co. Ct Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ct/Fairfield/13468 Surname: Smith ------------------------- Seeking William H. Smith, born (we think) about 1810-20 in Westport, Fairfield, Co. CT. He had at least one brother named Cornelius J. Smith. Family history says William was a manufacturer of thread in Westport but we have nothing to substantiate this claim. William m. Rebecca ??? in about 1840-41. Daughter Katie Smith was born in 1842 in Clay Co. IN. Do these people fit into anyone's Smith family? Does anyone know enough history of Westport to know whether there was a thread company there? This is all based on my grandmother's recollections but she was very old when she related them and couldn't offer specifics. Thanks for any help. Gayle
Does anyone know if there is a cemetery in Bridgeport called the "Old South Cemetery"? Thanks. kathy campbell
Hi Valerie Well, there is a first time for everything I suppose, but in the well over 10 years we have been doing genealogy, this is the first time anyone has wanted to charge anything over and above the cost of the copies and mailing. We have made numerous copies locally for other genealogist's and have yet to charge anything. Kind of a you scratch my back and I'll scratch yours type of thing. We have always done them for free because of the numerous kind genealogists who have done things for us, with minimal (or no) payment expectations. Anyway, in regards to your offer, thanks, but no thanks. Robin At 05:29 PM 05/24/2001 EDT, you wrote: >Hello >I would be able to got this obit for you.
