For sixty-four years she had been a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church. She was born in Greenwich, Fairfield County, Connecticut, in 1807, and became a member of the church in 1827. At twenty-five she was married to Captain Allen MEAD, and in 1842 they removed to Oswego, Oswego County, New York, and after several years to Michigan. She was from the first an earnest and active Christian worker, holding from time to time important offices in Christian societies. Among her personal acquaintances were some of the most distinguished people in our Church. She was noted for her hospitality, and many engaged in the interests and work of the church enjoyed the freedom and bounty of her home. Into her old age she was bright, cheerful, and active, and as she drew near the close rejoiced in the Lord, and left a radiant testimony of her saving faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. William DAWE

    1. Re: [CTFAIRFI] Burr line
    2. Is Jacobus (HISTORY AND GENEALOGY OF THE FAMILIES OF OLD FAIRFIELD) incorrect? There appears to be some confusion regarding the BURR line of Fairfield. According to Jacobus, there were two John Burrs, first cousins, of about the same age in Fairfield: (1) John3 (Nathaniel2, Jehu1) BURR (b. abt 1672; d. June 13, 1750, Stratfield, Connecticut); m1 bef 1698 Deborah BARLOW (b. abt 1675; d. Dec 4, 1726, Stratfield), dau of John and Abigail (LOCKWOOD) BARLOW; m2 Mar 29, 1727, Elizabeth HAWLEY (b. May 6, 1679; d. Aug 18, 1753), widow of Joseph WAKEMAN and dau of Ebenezer and Esther (WARD) HAWLEY. John and Deborah (Barlow) BURR had issue: John, Abigail, Deborah, Mary, William and Joseph. John3 BURR was the son of Nathaniel and Sarah (WARD) BURR. (2) John3 (John2, Jehu1) BURR (b. May 2, 1673; d. 1705); m Elizabeth HANFORD (b. Jan 9, 1666/67; d. bef 1708), dau of Rev. Thomas and Mary (MILES) HANFORD. John and Elizabeth (HANFORD) BURR had issue: Mary, Andrew, Ann, Elizabeth and Ebenezer. John3 BURR was the son of John and Sarah (FITCH) BURR.
