Hi People: I have spent years searching for the parents of my ggg grandfather, Benjamin Rogers. He was born somewhere in CT in 1795. When he was twenty or so, he moved from CT to the Great Barrington, area of MA. and was one of the first settlers of a wild, mountainous, and now impenetrable place touching upon the MA towns of Lee, Monterey and Tyringham. In the 1850 census, he is married to Anne Roberts who was also born somewhere in CT in 1795. Their children were: Alanson, b. 1825, m. Harriet Breckenridge Mary b. 1825 m. Solomon Worden Jesse b. 1828 James b. 1829 James fought in the Civil War and was interviewed by The Berkshire Gleaner when he was 79 years old. He was still living on Benjamin's old property at the time. I think Benjamin's wife, Anne Roberts may be from the Waterbury, CT area and may be the daughter of Jesse Roberts. If anyone can give me any help, ideas, hunches on this, my most mystifying genealogical problem, I will be forever grateful. Lynn Rogers Wallrapp

Hi Listers, Is there a volunteer in Fairfield that could get me a copy of a will? I would, of course, reimburse for any costs incurred. Regards, Susan

An article found in a Rochester, NY newspaper, that I thought may help someone Rochester, Monroe, NY Democrat & Chronicle Aug. 10, 1906 AWAKES TO FIND HIS WIFE DEAD Greenwich, Conn., Aug 9 - Angeline, wife of J. Edward LOCKWOOD, died last night at her home of heart trouble, while her husband lay sleeping by her side. The first knowledge LOCKWOOD had of her death was when he awoke in the morning.

Ct Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ct/Fairfield/13519 Surname: HUNT, YOUNGS ------------------------- I don't whether this is accurate, but according to a listing on the Mormon church site, (http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/frameset_search.asp} your Hannah Hunt was the daughter of Abner Hunt, born 1693, and Phebe Cornell, born about 1708. Abner was the son of Josiah Hunt (1650-1732) and Martha Honeywell (born about 1660), of Westchester County, NY. I have a listing of your Hannah's death on March 17, 1773 in the Hale records of Darien Cemeteries. She is buried in the Noroton River Cemetery in Darien, CT. Her stone says she was born 1729.

The Town Clerk staff is hard put to keep up with registering and getting copies of births, deaths, marriages, property sales and transfers, etc. without taking time to do genealogy look-ups. You sometimes have better luck in the smaller towns, however. Lois elseajay@earthlink.net

Does anyone know why the Danbury folks won't do mail-in requests for records? And are there any other cities or counties in CT that have this restriction? Thanks for the info. Deborah Bay Denver, CO
Pat Yes, this is true, must be a member of an approved society. For those on AOL you can just click on the hyperlink <A HREF="http://www.cslib.org/genesoc.htm">Genealogical Societies Incorporated or Authorized to do Business or Conduct Aff</A> for others go to: http://www.cslib.org/genesoc.htm This will give you the CT State Statute and what societies are approved. What time period are you searching? I believe that all pre-1850 records are filmed by the LDS. Accveptable membership would probably be in the Connecticut Society. But to make sure, I would talk to the town clerk for the current policy. Right down all the ways to spell Loudy it may help. For 15 yrs i have been searching for a woman b in Cheshire CT whose cemetary stone says was Lolly... someone emailed me what they thought might be her last name...and her first name turned out to be Lowley...easy to become Lolly...she was also born in Wallingford the next town instead...close but never a match until now...lol There is also a Loudy LAYFIELD in the 1850 Georgia Census. My guess is that they are all of the same family, due to the unusual given name "Loudy". >> Lindy
