FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Jeffrey Bingham Mead at history@aloha.net THE HISTORIC MEAD FAMILY BURYING GROUNDS ASSOCIATION LAUNCHES HISTORICAL WEBSITE Jeffrey Bingham Mead, president and founder of The Historic Mead Family Burying Grounds Association, has announced the launching of an historical resource website at www.meadburyinggrounds.org. The mission of the association is to ensure the sustained preservation of three Mead family burying grounds in the town and of ancestral grave markers of family members in other cemeteries. The association was incorporated in 1990 in conjunction with the 350th year celebrations of the history of the town. According to Mead, "the web site will facilitate dialogue and communication among Mead family descendants and friends worldwide. We're also interested in encouraging excellence in online historical research and publishing. We also seek to use the web site to generate financial support for the continued care of the cemeteries under our stewardship. " The association is publishing an online journal of history entitled 'Hallowed Grounds.' "We felt our family descendants and friends would benefit from having a forum in which the history of these sites and those interred therein could be explored and published. In this way, our far-flung relatives can have the benefit of access to information without traveling far to acquire it. This helps serve the educational mission of our association most effectively." "All of these sites were at one time overgrown and neglected for many years. Prior to the initial clean up efforts at two of these sites the taller markers seemed to struggle for recognition above weeds and debris. Today, the grounds are maintained, fallen stones stand tall and have been cleaned, and our history is transmitted continuously over the Internet for the benefit of Mead family descendants near and far across the world," said Mead.
I am looking for the lineage of Rahamah Barnum, proving her father was Ezbon Barnum, a Revolutionary War soldier, and her lineage down to me. She married a William Mann, father of Orvis Mann.
Hello, I am looking for Ezbon Barnum's daughter (I have it spelled Rahamah), who married a William Mann. Their child was Orvis Mann. But I need to prove Rahamah's lineage to Ezbon Barnum for DAR. Any ideas?
Lorraine, May I suggest you look in "History and Genealogy of Fairfield CT" by D. L. Jacobus vol. 2? Your Hull may be a little too late for that work but I did find one of my ancestors had married Hamilton HULL, in Fairfield, CT. Margaret in NV

Further genealogical information is requested about Matthew Mead. Please contact Charles Riegle at CRiegle@aol.com Matthew Mead was born in the old Mead Tavern at the upper end of Comstock Ridge, in what became Wilton, on July 30, 1735. He was orphaned at 10, and brought up by his oldest brother Thaddeus. Thaddeus served in 1746 in the defense of Louisburg. When war broke out again in 1755, Thaddeus went as a Lieut. in the CT militia to Canada, and Matthew went with him as a private. T. served until 1760 when he died of smallpox at Schenectady; Matthew continued to 1762. In 1773, Mead was elected Captain of the "Wilton Train Band." In the first group of officers commissioned at the outbreak of war, he became Captain of the Norwalk Company sent under General Waterbury to the invasion of Canada. He was wounded at St. Johns. In June of 1776 he went as Major of a battalion of State troops to Long Island and the attempted defense of New York. He became Lieut. Col. of the 5th line Regiment in 1777, and spent that winter at Valley Forge, commanding for a time the 8th line. He was in command of the state regiment defending Greenwich and the sound, and was thus in charge of the defense of Norwalk when it was burned by the British. During the final years of the war, he served in the legislature and as recruiting officer in Norwalk. He was the only Colonel of regular troops from any part of Norwalk. *************************************************
Greetings! I am looking for information about my ancestors, whose name was Clock. My gg grandfather was Henry W. Clock, son of Samuel Clock and Mary (Polly?) Reed Clock. Samuel's father was Martin Clock Jr., whose father was Martin Clock. Samuel had a brother, Hiram. Hiram and Samuel migrated to Tompkins County in the early 1830s. On the county's Rootsweb site, I found an entry that showed Samuel Clock and a Polly Reed were married in 1818. The questions I have are: 1) Was Polly a nickname for Mary? 2) How would I find out who Polly's parents were? 3) Is there any information on the Clock family in a local history book? 4) Where would I look or who should I contact for further information on this family? Thank you so much! Peace, Elaina M. Morey
Thanks bunches for your message, I am extremely grateful for your response. I see now that I have to set up for notification. I thought it would be automatic. I am somewhere between Mr. Low Tech & Mr. No Tech and I have no one to teach me how these boards work, so I will always be going through a learning process. My mother, Rachael Isobell Rundall was born Oct 17, 1910 between Tolley & Greene in the old Imperial-Ward Township of Renville County, ND. The property had been homesteaded by her parents. In some places it states that she was born in Central City, Iowa but that was not the case. She married my father, Milo Melvin clayton, Feb 1 1940 at Burlington, Iowa. It was the second marriage for each of them. They moved to Detroit where they lived until the mid 1940's, when they moved back to Illinois where they had each lived during the 1930's. she had two children: Me - born Milo Melvin Clayton, Jr. (I legally changed my name during the 1970's after I became so absorbed by our genealogy) at Detroit Oct 17 1942. I now live at Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. My brother William Henry Clayton was born at Detroit October 14 1943, he now lives at Mapleton, Illinois. We are in the Rundall book, my Aunt Grace (Edna Grace Hunter) was the widow of Marvin Rundall, brother of my mother & she provided the information, most of it correctly. You ask if I have enough information on the Rundalls? Not to sound like a smart aleck, which I am basically not, but I could never have enough information re: the family. Mother died May 22 1956 in Peoria County, IL of cervical cancer. I think I may overcompensate for her early death by being more attentive re: research for her side of the family. My dad died July 1970 at Peoria, Peoria County, IL. I never remember the date but have ordered a copy of his death cert. so I will have it. Great to be in touch with you, I can send my line back if you like, to see if it more or less agrees with your line, and vica versa. I will have to send it by FAX or by snail mail because I do not know how to send attachmentts by email. I would love to plug in your line and determine exactly what our cousinship is. Later.
I really have no idea. I haven't been able to find any information on Manoah other than he was born about 1770 and was in Fairfield County, CT. I have an ancestor, Lyman Porter, born Nov. 1805 in Fairfield County, but I can't find his parents. I've been trying to find out if Manoah had a son Lyman.
I am looking for info on Alexander Hart born Apr 1862 in Scotland, and his wife Carrie A Dehm born 16 Nov 1866 in CT. I believe his father was Thomas Hart born About 1813, and mother Mary Wylie born About 1827 both born in Scotland. Their other kids were Agness, Robert, James, Elizabeth and Thomas all born in Scotland. They are in the 1880 census Greenwich, Fairfield County.
My son's Name is William Manoah Hans Porter VII - His great grand father was Manoah Porter. Is this the same family line?

Hello Griswolds - I have found the following volumes of the Griswold Family books very helpful in sorting out my own Griswolds. You have to be a subscriber, though. I don't believe Vol. I is there.
