They had 8 daughters and 1 son. He was born in 1806 in New York; I don't know when he moved to Fairfield. He was the son of Henry Kneeland of Bogert & Kneeland, cotton merchants in New York, but was not actively engaged in that business. He committed suicide in 1861, in the offices of Bogert & Kneeland. I am looking for any information on his death and on that family and/or their descendants.

Oh my, this is kind of exciting to get this information from you! Orvis Mann's daughter was named Electa, just like his sister's name. She married William Austin Cook. William and Electa Mann Cook were my great grandparents who are buried in my hometown's cemetery in IA. Orvis' daughter Electa Mann was born at Mina, NY in Chautauqua County. Orvis was a farmer. Later Orvis and Mary Burhans Mann moved to Crawford County, PA where they are buried near Cochranton, PA. Electa Mann married William Cook in Meadville, PA. He had lived in IA, but went to Allegheny College in Meadville PA and married Electa Mann there in 1871. Later they came back to IA where he (William Cook) had lived. Will look forward to hearing from you! Marilyn Hagedorn

William and Ruhama are buried in the More Cemetery in Roxbury, Delaware County, NY - next to Lurancy and Erastus Follett. I also found a quotation from a Moore genealogy saying that Electa Mann More, sister of Orvis, was the daughter of William Mann. Another sister was Roxy Mann Tupper. As soon as I get a minute I'll pull together what I have. There's not as much documentation as I'd like, but I think it can be found in Delaware County.

I recommend other researchers avail themselves of their local library ILL program. (Inter-Library-Loan). A blessing for those of us who can't fly across country in search of ancestral data.

My theory is that her husband Josiah Treadwell II was some sort of loyalist to England - either that or she and her husband Josiah Treadwell changed religions. There is something hinky since as the oldest son he wasn't even mentioned in the will and kinda disappeared from CT. Finding out about female ancestors is TOUGH! Maggie

Were you able to get proof someway of their being children of Ruhamah? I am in DAR, and since Ruhamah's father Ezbon Barnum was a Revolutionary War soldier from Fairfield Co, CT, It would be nice to somehow get the proof of the lineage from Ezbon and Ruhamah to Orvis and Luransy. Do you know where Luransy and Orvis were born? I recently learned Orvis was born in Dutchess County,NY, but would like to learn more of the particulars--what town, date of his birth, etc. Do you know if there were more siblings, their names, births, place of birth, etc.? Where did Luransy live later on in her life? Orvis went to Delaware County, NY with his parents, met a Mary Burhans there and my lineage comes from them. Thank you, Marilyn H.
