    1. Obituary - Henry Raymond Gardnier
    2. While searching on the Brooklyn Eagle site I came across some people who were born in Conn. And decided to copy them and send them on to the list in case someone might be searching for them. Brooklyn Eagle May 4, 1902 HENRY RAYMOND GARDNIER. Captain Henry Raymond Gardnier, whose funeral was held Last night at his late residence at 241 Sunnyside Ave, in the Twenty-sixth Ward, was widely know among the seafaring men in Greenpoint and the cast end of Long Island. He followed the sea from the time he was a boy of 14, and he was in command of a fine coasting vessel at the age of 19. Death, which occurred Thursday, was caused by diabetes, after an illness of several months. Deceased was born in Waterford, New London County, Conn., 72 years ago, is survived by a widow and four daughters. He had resided for twenty-five years in Suffolk County, where he was engaged in the fishing business, and owned and sailed a number of fishing boats. for the past five years he lived in Brooklyn a retired life. Deceased was always a stanch Democrat and a firm supporter of the Baptist Church. He retained his membership in the Quaker Hill Baptist Church of New London. The interment will be made in New London this afternoon. ____________________________________________________________________________ Brooklyn Eagle Nov. 3, 1901 Mrs. Carrie l. Wright. Mrs. Carrie L. Wright, the wife of Eugineer H. H. S. Wright, who was stationed at Ridgewood pumping station, died yesterday morning after a lingering illness of spinal Miengitis at her residence, 208 Euclid Avenue in the Twenty-sixth ward. Deceased was born in Connecticut, August 1, 1838. She married quite young and was probably the greatest women traveler in the country. Her husband was a contracting railroad builder and Mrs. Wright accompanied him in all his journeys through the Western wilderness. She saw Arkansas when it was mostly Indian settlement and Jouryned in a canvas covered wagon from Denver to Santa Fe on the old trail a distance of 500 miles. In most of these trips Mr. and Mrs. Wright were alone, and her husband declares she was one of the bravest women that ever traveled in a Prario schooner. During her travels Mrs. Wright visited all states and territories exceptin Washington and California. Altogether she kept house on the plaus. She was a fine horsewomen and her skill in the saddle many times, it is said, saved her life. the deceased witnessed so many primitive burials on the plains that she conceived it " a dread of the worms", " as she expressed it, and according to her wish her remains will be cremated at Fresh Pond, Thursday. Mrs. Wright lived off and on always in Brooklyn, which she called her home. She was a member of the Episcopal Church of Transfiguration, the rector of which will conduct the funeral services to-night at the late residence. Wow What a Lady!! Geraldine Ryerson K

    3. Hi all, Many folks may be confused by the misinformation making it around the lists about the new Ancestry service. To clarify for those who may be interested, I am quoting a fellow listowner who explains the service quite well, "Ancestry is *not* charging for access to trees or selling trees: access will remain free from both the RootsWeb and Ancestry side as it has always been. What Ancestry is offering for an extra charge is access to a special search engine to search the trees for you. Folks can still search the trees manually or browse the trees for free the same way they always have. Think of it as a research assistant: you can hire someone to help you look for your ancestors, or you can research yourself for free. Hiring a human research assistant doesn't sell them the data being researched, or change the rules so that only they are allowed to look. That's essentially what it is, except that it's computerized, not human." Let's not get into discussion of Ancestry's services here - let's stay on the subject of Fairfield County genealogy. . . . . You may email me privately with any comments. Thank you, Hope CTFAIRFI List Admin

    3. Dear friends and list members: Some of you may have already received an e-mail from list-moms or listers regarding ancestry.com's decision to create a new "OneWorldTree" with the information that we all submitted, and then to charge $49.95 to access the information. If you have not received the e-mail and would like more information, you can follow this link http://www.ancestry.com/search/rectype/trees/owt/ . I did, and found out that the only information available to me (even from my own tree!), was the ancestor's name that I originally entered in the "search" box. Family information was listed, but was "grayed out" with a note stating "Gray text indicates information available to subscribers only." Well, I already have a broad-based subscription to ancestry's services, but apparently THIS subscription is in addition to that one. They have a wonderful discount on this service to those of us who subscribe already...only $39.95! Lucky us. This is just another in a string of problems I have had with Ancestry's services in recent months. I now realize that all of you who dissed ancestry in the past were correct. Shame on me for not listening sooner. Also, when taking all of this into consideration, also consider the fact that many, many of us who submitted trees did so with accidental errors, or unproven facts....so we're essentially being charged for "misinformation"? Tracy Howell Bend, OR P.S. If you wish to delete your submitted information, go to http://ancestry.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/ancestry.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_ faqid=1090 for instructions.

    2. Judy, Family may have had plot there at one time. St. Michaels is where our family plot is--I am in Bridgeport. If the plot is listed under her last name, office has given me basic info--who is buried in plot, date interred. They also give you a map and directions to plot. Many times can pick up additional imformation if gravestones. Have struck out if her last name isn't name plot is listed under. Peg
