    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/TZ.2ADE/4437 Message Board Post: Hello, As the Fairfield Co., CT Board Admin and a CC for the Fairfield County USGenWeb Project, I wanted to let everyone know that someone is using e-mail addresses from the USGenWeb site in order to send viruses. I've heard that others have received that kind of mail from "me," but the hackers use masking software to cover their own e-mail addresses with those of their intended targets. I always keep up-to-date with my Virus Software and have actually never had a Virus on my Mac. But I'm very careful, too. Please do be careful and use the necessary precautions. (I never download anything, particularly a .zip file from anyone, without prior clearance or a check from the author.) This is the third time this week that I've received bogus mail from an e-mail address, which I recognized from CTFAIRFI. Take care and happy hunting, Maureen Mead [email protected] USGenWeb Project CC Fairfield Co., CT: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ctfairfi

    1. JEREMIAH RIGGS, REV.WAR CT TO NY; SON, JEREMIAH NY TO MI 1828 bio.
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: RIGGS, PECK, BISHOP, STONER Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/TZ.2ADE/4436 Message Board Post: Hello, These are not my relatives, but I thought someone might like to have the history for their records. It came from the: "1892 Portrait & Biographical Album of Genesee, Lapeer & Tuscola Counties, Chapman Bros", in Michigan. Hope it helps someone. Colleen FREDERICK F. RIGGS. This worthy Michigan pioneer was born in Avon, Livingston County, N.Y., April 23, 1810. He a descendant from Jeremiah Riggs, and he a son of Jeremiah, Sr., who, with two brothers, came to the New World from Wales some time prior to the Revolution. The eldest James, settled in New Jersey and the second brother, Joseph, settled in Massachusetts, while the youngest, Jeremiah, settled in Connecticut. Our subject’s grandfather was also Jeremiah Riggs, a native of Connecticut, who was born near New Haven. He took and active part in the Revolutionary War. The immediate progenitor of our subject was also Jeremiah Riggs. He too was born in the Nutmeg State but reared in New York and early in life became a miller. Our subject’s father’s with his family came to Michigan in August, 1828, and located for a short time at Pontiac, where he leased and operated a gristmill for a few months with some success. He subsequently moved to Grand Blanc, Genesee County, and there permanently settled, but late in life he removed to Saginaw and later to Fenton, where he died June 22, 1858, while in his eighty-first year. He had been thrice married, his first wife, Lucy Peck, the mother of our subject, dying in September, 1812, leaving four children, of whom our subject is the only one surviving. There were four children by the second marriage and two by the third. Frederick Riggs lived with his father until of age and during that time had but limited educational advantages. He learned the milling business under his paternal parent and after coming to Michigan assisted in the management of the mills of Pontiac and there established an enviable reputation for turning out a good quality of flour. He located with his father at Grand Blanc and knew every one for many miles around. His every day associates were mostly Indians and he learned to speak their language as fluently as he could his own. After becoming of age he acted as assistant in an United States engineering corps who made a complete land survey between Saginaw and Mackinaw. The country along the lake shore in this region was reported to be worthless and the Government made the survey in order to establish the facts of the matter. Mr. Riggs was married to Miss Eveline Bishop, January 26, 1836. She was a native of Avon, H.Y., and was born in 1810. In 1837 our subject located on a wild piece of land in the Township of Tyrone, Livingston County, and there built a log house and barn, living in true pioneer style for several years. He there remained for thirty years and made of his track a fine and perfectly cultivated farm. In 1867 he retired from active farming and returned to Fenton. IN 1874 he went West in the hope of regaining his health which had not been good robust for some time. He spent several years in Western Kansas and later, following the advice of a physician, went to the mountains of Colorado. Delighted with the mountain scenery and the beneficent effect of the climate, Mr. Riggs spent several years prospecting and eventually located several mining claims in Southwestern Colorado. He erected a cabin in Rio Grande County, which is perched upon a dizzy mountain eleven thousand, five hundred feet about he level of the sea. He has here spent much of his time for the past sixteen years. He has familiarized himself with mining and now has his claim leased to parties who are preparing to open them on an extensive scale, as adjacent mines are already yielding rich returns in gold. Although eighty-one years old our subject still enjoys mountain life, and especially in perfecting his fine collection of ores. Mr. and Mrs. Riggs have had four children, only one of whom is now living. Esther is the wife of C.J.K. Stoner and lives in Fenton. Mr. Riggs is a Democrat in politics and has been Justice of the Peace. Socially he is a Mason and an Odd Fellow. They have a very pleasant! home and he and his wife lived together for fifty-five years.

    1. Bridgeport telegram
    2. I posted this yesterday but I guess i did not do it right so I will repost. I have 3 bound volumes of the Bridgeport Telegram and one of the Bridgeport Sunday Post which I got at the flea market yesterday. The dates are: Bpt. Telegram Jan-March 1927, July Sept 1923, March - April 1939 and the Bpt. Sunday Post July- Dec. 1929. The volumes are HUGE and the dealer was getting ready to trash them---I did not want to see that happen so I took them. Had to borrow his hand truck to haul them away! I know this info can be accessed in various ways but i will do look ups if you can provide me a date. The papers did a lot of society {weddings, parties, trips etc} as well as obits, divorces, accidents and all the stuff people loved {and still do} to read about. They seemed to have been able to cover the entire state--I am finding out that nothing is new! Judy

I am descended from Charles and Eliza's daughter Kate Sparrow Miller who married Charles Buller Gray. Their son, Charles Miller Gray (1892-1965) was my maternal grandfather. If I can be of help to anyone with these lines, I will gladly try. Judy Wright, Ocala, FL

Yes his middle initial was W. He lived 310 Flax Hill Rd in Norwalk. I always suspected the Miller's and Semple's knew each other in Tipperary. Once even thought they had imigrated together, but have found in census records Samuel was 1880 and Miller's 1882. Eliza (Sparrow) Miller, widowed in 1879, brought 8 or so of her children. I haven't yet found any ship records. We visited the Kilcooley Abbey graveyard a couple of summers ago. Didn't have a lot of time and the flies were swarming around as bad as I've ever seen. Maybe the spirits didn't want us there - who knows. I corresponded with the Rev and she sent me some data which was mostly not applicable. She led me to understand that maybe the Miller's dated back into the Palatine imigration from the Continent, but don't have any data. In fact, I have nothing beyond Eliza and her husband Charles Miller except his father was named John. I do have deeper records on the Sparrow line. I'll let you know if and when I get a death certificate. Bob
