Volume I of Connecticut Men in the French and Indian War has 2 references to people being from Stratfield in Stratford. I also note a reference elsewhere stating that the First Congregational Church of Bridgeport was at one time known as Stratfield Society (Bridgeport was formed from Fairfield and Stratford). Finally, there seems to be a section (village ?) in the town of Fairfield called Stratfield. Hope this helps.
St. Augustine's Church is St. Augustine Cathedral, home of the Bishop of the diocese. Yes, it is there, did not burn down. It has been undergoing extensive renovations. They may have been referring to records of the old St. Augustine Cemetery. Stratfield--while town became Bridgeport, part of Fairfield also known as Stratfield. It is known as the Stratfield area of Fairfield. Sort of a neighborhood name. PEG

Crudginton, born July 21, 1899 and died November 19, 1977 and is wodowed. I would suggest you write to Danbury Library for a death notice to find any living relatives. I think the cost would be $5.00 per notice. You should also get the death certificate from the town clerk in Danbury. That too will cost you $5.00. Then follow it up at the cemetery. You might find other relatives that you were not aware off buried in the same burial plot. I went to white pages online and trace members or people who I though were members of my family after I have read the death notice. I than sent a genealogy letter to everyone I found. People were really nice if they were not members of the family when they replied. But I have found several members of my family that I didn't know and able to get information and pictures. I have used this method with great success. Hello, all, I'm interested in information about my GGGGgrandparents, Amy Raymond and Jonathan Nash. I believe they were both born in Norwalk. Their daughter, Harriet, was my GGGgrandmother. She was born 26 Sep 1814 in Norwalk and married Horace Joice (haven't found out who his parents were yet). Any information on Amy or Jonathan would be greatly appreciated. Hi Listers, In the early days of colonial CT people got tired of travelling a long way to Church so Fairfield and Stratfield each gave a portion of their land to a newly formed town of Stratfield (with its own church). Some years later the town of Stratfield was absorbed into the newly formed city of Bridgeport. The Stratfield Congregational Church and old burying ground are still there in the side of Bridgeport toward Fairfield. Regards, Bob Hull ===== Robert E. One if you go to: www.usgenweb.com and go to Connecticut. Bridgeport has a wonderful website. It will give you the information for town clerk and library. I would sugget you get a death certificate which would cost you only $5.00. The library will do a search for a death notice if published and that will cost you $5.00 per notice. Than you should follow it up at the cemetery. Sometimes there are other relatives buried in the same plot. Connecticut is one of the best states to work with when doing genealogy. The people are very helpful. Hope this will help. If you have any problems or more questions please email me.

Sue, I'm not the list admin for this list; just another subscriber. But I admin lots of other lists on Rootsweb. You are correct in noticing that a lot of the traffic on this list is the result of gatewayed message board posts. But certainly not all messages start out that way. Mine for example isn't coming from the message board and neither did yours. But I'm guessing this is a rather small list with few subscribers, and lots of folks who primarily use the gatewayed message board for their communication purposes. It may also be the case that the subscribers on this list are very well educated, and when a message board post comes in, they reply on the board as is preferred rather than only replying to the list. -- Mary Dresser Taffet researching Archibald McCLOSKY of Shelton, Fairfield County, CT On Sat, 5 Jun 2004 [email protected] wrote: > Hi list: > > I notice that the list isn't working as I would expect.
