On the Greenwich USGenWeb site, it says that prior to 1853, Greenwich probate records can be found at the Stamford and Fairfield Probate Offices. I am trying to figure out if there is a film I can order from the Family History Library with these Greenwich probate records. When I look up Greenwich probate there, it is only 1853 on. When I look up Stamford, it says Stamford Probate District includes the towns of Stamford and Darien. When I look up Fairfield, it just lists Fairfield. Does anyone know if the pre-1853 Greenwich records are included on the Stamford films? Thanks, Holly>>> HI, Holly Yes, I believe that is correct. I have not personally pulled probate records from the mid-1800s, but Greenwich was part of the Stamford Probate District until 1853. There are two filmed records available from the FHC 1729-1848: Abstracts by Spencer Percival Mead and filmed records of the actual files. 1. 2. I recently found refence to a marriage record that has eluded me for years. However, the information as it appeared on FamilySearch.com did not have any source. The information is as follows: "Marriage of Thomas Davis to Sarah Taylor about 1789 in Fairfield, Ct." Is there a possibility that someone could check this out for me? I believe they would have been married in a Congregational Church. Sarah Taylor is the daughter of Gamaliel and Abigail (Cable) Taylor of Norwalk. Ken Davis

In a message dated 6/13/04 10:07:21 AM, [email protected] writes: << I would love to get close up photo's of the headstones of Henry Jackson ... >> The earliest known stone cemetery marker in Fairfield is dated 1687 and bears only the initials S M. After that there is a real gap before markers as we know them began to appear. Those early folks didn't use stone markers that lasted the ravages of time - nor did they have the money or talent available to make them. Since Henry's mill was near the old center of town, we can assume that he was buried in the Old Burying Ground there, but no marker exists. As to those in later years, I will check the lists on Tuesday and let you know if any of those are to be found. I am a volunteer in the Fairfield Historical Society library. Bill

    3. Hello Listers, I live in Fairfield and would be happy to take pictures of the family headstones of your ancestors. If you have a request please email me directly. I'll need names, dates, and which cemetery you think your folks are buried in-there are three very old cemeteries in town. I have a digital camera so there is no cost involved. Just one note though---I'm a teacher and summer vacation begins on the 23rd, so the photos won't be taken until after that date. I already have on hand photos of about half of the stones in the Old Burying ground on Beach road. Sometime today I'll try to get that list on my "Home town" page at my web site-link below. I may already have the photo you need. Bye for now, Karen [email protected] www.geocities.com/ksteel.geo My Genealogy Homepage "On the keyboard of life always keep one finger on the escape key."
