Downing. According to the Stamford directory listing from 1892 to 1897 he was a fire engine driver. He had two addresses at that time, Fagan St and 8 Railroad Ave. He was married to Mary Agnes Downing (nee Downey). She was the daughter of Timothy & Bridget Downey (nee O'Sullivan) from Ireland. She was born in Connecticut about 1850. According to the 1860 CT census she was 10 years old in 1860. She had several brothers and sisters. According to the 1907 Stamford directory, she was a widow and lived on Hill Street. Maurice & Mary Agnes had at least two sons that I know of, my grandfather, John J. Downing, who was a bus driver in Stamford for many years and Charles Downing. The only information I have on Maurice is what I have listed above. If you can help me, please answer at my email address and on this message board. Thanks, Judy Downing

Surnames: Davis Davies Ferriss Ferris Terrill Turrill Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/TZ.2ADE/4457 Message Board Post: Who are Polly Davis’ parents? Polly Davis (b. 30 Jul 1784, d. 28 Dec 1858) married Gerardus Ferriss (b. 17 Mar 1779, d. 29 Jul 1867) in January 1804. (from Orcutt’s History of New Milford) Traditional and obvious sources (probate, land records, published genealogies etc.) have not provided the answer. The “naming convention” approach has produced a possible clue. Gerardus Ferriss and Polly Davis had 7 children: Charles, Caroline, Charlania, George, Paulina, Albert, and Charlotte. The two names Paulina and Charlan(i)a are fairly rare. In the Church records for the Washington Church at New Preston, Jared Terrill baptized several children including two girls named Paulina (b. 20 Jan 1800) and Charlana (b. 18 May 1797). Also, there is a Polly Terrill who was born 4 Aug 1784, only five days from when Polly (Davis) Ferriss was born. Polly Terrill had a brother Curtis(s) Terrill who had real estate transaction(s) with a Stephen Davis “of New Fairfield.” Could the “Polly Davis” who married Gerardus Ferriss been Polly Terrill Davis, perhaps a widow, albeit a very young widow? Any information is greatly appreciated.

Page 456; probate records. I need to know why and am trying to prove relationship of Seth to Benjamin who I believe to have been Seths grandfather. Does anyone know how to find the actual probate record which I hope would give more details. Over the past 13 yrs. I have exhausted every resource possible to prove my theory that Seth Brush Downs was the son of Silas Smith Downs of North Castle and Lucy Ann Brush ( daughter of Benjamin Jr, ). I have already been to Hartford library looking for this. When Silas Smith Downes died at a young age, his widow, Lucy Ann, took her children and moved back to CT. and ejoined her original church: Stanwich and had her children baptised. I found only mentioned, two of them but believe that Seth was her first and did not join that church. Any help would be unbelievably appeciated. Seth was my ggggrandfat! her. Marianne

I would like to get a copy of her license to see if where she was born is listed. The period of time is 1920s to 1939 when she died. She went to school at Bellevue Hospital in New York. I tried at the state level in Albany with no luck. So I am hoping that maybe someone can give me some direction in Connecticut. Would I contact at the state level or the Public Health Department in Danbury? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
Hello Listers I am new to this group, but thought I would try to muster some help with the marriage of my Great GrandUncle Thomas SMALLWOOD (a Bridgeport Police Officer for 30 years), he married a German girl called EMMA. At least according to the Fairfield 1920 census, both of her parents were of German origin. Thomas was born in England 23rd February 1881, he arrived in NY 1890 with his father William SMALLWOOD, Thomas died in July 1963, his social security number was 049-20-8444. Would it be possible to find out when he was married to Emma, and subsequently what her previous surname was. Her parents details would be a bonus.
