Dear Listers, About 1800 or so, there was quite a large group of families who emigrated from Fairfield Co., CT. to the Walton, Delaware Co., NYS. area. Many were from Ridgefield and Fairfield town environs [ and were often inter-related,of course]. What I am asking is this: Are there on-line or written resources where details are given for this exodus and the involved families? I have several families in this group whose surnames I know--EVERETT,BENEDICT; EELLS , St.JOHNS are four. But,I am trying to add information on these and other families and to locate a Harriet M. [--------] EVERETT who was born in CT. but probably was a daughter of one family in this group, married about 1845 or 1846 to a George A. EVERETT in Delaware County, NYS. In 1846, they had a daughter, Eliza/ Elizabeth /Harriet EVERETT and in 1850, in Sidney,Del.Co.,NYS--a male child- later identified as Thomas Benjamin EVERETT. Help would be appreciated. Hello, I am a new subscriber. I would appreciate any help in having someone look up a street directory address in 1931 give or take a few years. This is the story as it was told to me. My husband was born on August 16, 1931 in Shelton Ct. His mother said that they were living at 200 Division St. Their names were Irene and Louis Tetreault but Louis rented the apartment in the name of Louis Parker because he said that the people in the area did not like French Canadians. That's what he told his wife so they registered as Parker. Louis was a weaver at one of the mills in town. They did not stay in Shelton more than a year after My Husband was Born. Roland J Tetreault is his name. We have the birth certificate but are looking for information from the street directory. would be grateful for any help. live in Springfield Ma. would be willing to look up in this area in gtatatude Judy _________________________________________________________________ Express yourself instantly with MSN Messenger! NJ death certificate lists birthplace as CT and states he was 87 years 10 months at time of death, Aug. 23, 1903. Therefore, he was born Oct/Nov 1815. Have found five Lacy families in Fairfield Co on 1820 census with male children under 10 years old, i.e. born between 1810-1820. They are: Jesse in Weston, Fairfield Co., one; Darius, in New Fairfield, Fairfield Co., one; Manson in New Fairfield, Fairfield Co., one; Benjamin, in Fairfield, Fairfield Co., one; Michael in Fairfield, Fairfield Co., one. One other quirk…current family and two generations back uses “Somers” as middle name although death certificate spells it “Summers”. Is there a kind genealogical soul out there who can check local records to see if a Daniel Somers (or Summers) Lacy was born ca. 1815 to one of these families?

I've "rescued" a group of photographs all appearing to belong to the STILLMAN-EAMES and STILLMAN-PRESTON Families of Bridgeport, Connecticut. The first is a snapshot photo probably taken in the early 1900's of Mary Emily S. PRESTON identified as "Mother", Carrie Belle EAMES identified as "Auntie", Sid EAMES identified as "Uncle", and Clara S. PRESTON. The second photograph is one of Sidney EAMES which was taken at the Betts Studio in Bridgeport, CT. It was probably taken in the 1880's with Sidney appearing to be in his 20's at the time. The third is a photograph of Sidney EAMES and Carrie Belle STILLMAN EAMES which appears to have been taken in the 1900's with the couple appearing to be in their 60's or 70's at the time. The final two photographs are portraits of Sidney EAMES and Carrie Bell EAMES which were both taken at the Cochran Studio in Bridgeport, CT. The photographs were probably taken in the early 1900's with both subjects appearing to be in their 50's at the time. Based on limited research I believe that these are photographs of sisters Carrie Bell STILLMAN b. 17 Sept 1856 and Mary Emily STILLMAN b. 7 Oct 1863 both born at Bridgeport, CT to parents John J. STILLMAN and Caroline Sawyer CHILD. In 1880 John & Carrie STILLMAN were recorded living in Bridgeport with two younger daughters, Clara age 19, and Mary age 16. John STILLMAN was listed as age 61, born in CT, a Shirt Cutter whose parents were both born in CT. Carrie (Caroline) STILLMAN was listed as age 49, born in NY to parents both born in SC, though Carrie STILLMAN EAMES notes during that same census that her Mother was born in NH. Carrie Bell STILLMAN married Sidney EAMES (b. 1852 in Bridgeport, CT) on 26 May 1875 in Bridgeport, CT. The couple was recorded in the 1880 census living in Bridgeport, CT with a son Harry H. EAMES age 4. Sidney EAMES was said to have been born in NH to parents born in MA and NH respectively. I'm hoping to locate someone from the family so that these wonderful old photographs can be returned to family. If you are a member of this family or know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley

Hello Listers I have had some quite fantastic assistance with the marriage of my Great Granduncle Thomas SMALLWOOD (a Bridgeport Police Officer for 30 years), he married a German girl called Emma FREYLER on the 12th June 1902. They were married by a C. Brunner Pastor of the German Reform Church, Bridgeport. For those interested in this family I have the following information: It is well known (recorded in the Danbury, Fairfield, Connecticut vital records and hence in the Barbour Collection) that on 23 Mar 1762 William Roberts married Ann Sherwood. What is less well known is that this Ann Sherwood was the widow of Andrew Sherwood. The following sources (all from the LDS Family History Library) make this clear: . 1. Connecticut Probate Court (Danbury District) , Danbury District Probate records, 1744-1916 , FHL US/CAN Film 4024, v.2, pg 173, 11 Apr 1763. This is the distribution of the estate of Andrew Sherwood of Danbury. 1. "...giving to Ann Robberds now wife of William Roberds of Danbury aforesaid and late widow and Relict to the said Andrew Sherwood deceased the one third part of said estate as her Dower During Life." 2."..and to Daniel Sherwood Eldest son of the said deceased a Double part or share of the said estate." 3. "and to Ann Sherwood, Esther Sherwood, Sarah Sherwood, Hannah Sherwood, Andrew Sherwood and Rachel Sherwood they being the children and all the children of the deceased to each of them a single part or share in said estate.". 2. Connecticut Probate Court (Danbury District) , Danbury District Probate records, 1744-1916 , FHL US/CAN Film 4027, v.9, pgs 17-19, 27 Mar 1805. "Whereas by the death of Ann Roberts late widow and relict of Andrew Sherwood late of Danbury deceased, that part of the real estate of the said Andrew which was set off to the said Ann as Dower now remains to be distributed according to law as the said Andrew died Intestate this Court doth there upon nominate and appoint Hoah Hoyt, Justus Barnum and David Boughton all of said Danbury to make Distribution accordingly, that is to say to the children of the said Andrew, or the Representatives of any of them who are dead, equal shares , except to Daniel the oldest son, two shares. The same persons are also appointed to distribute according to law that part of the real estate of said Andrew which was distributed to his daughter Sarah, who died in her minority and unmarried.." Completed this 27th day of March 1805. The estate was distributed to the children of Andrew Sherwood and Ann Sherwood Roberts which were listed as follows: Rachel Brown, youngest daughter. Daniel Sherwood or his legal representatives. Ann, eldest daughter of said deceased, or her legal representatives. Ester Keeler, second daughter of the deceased. Hannah, third daughter of said deceased, or her legal representatives Andrew, youngest son of the deceased.

CT site about Osborn information. I am interested in this line. The oldest direct ancestor on whom I have somewhat solid information, is Joseph Osborn (whom his grandson called Richard, I don't know why), born 20 Feb 1755 in New Fairfield CT, married Eunice Towner, also of New Fairfield. Joseph enlisted in the army from New Fairfield, fought in the war and was injured in the leg, then after the war moved to Lanesborough, MA, then VT, then Canada, then VT, then to Batavia NY about 1812-1814, and died there in 1841 at 86 years of age, according to his tombstone in the Batavia Cemetery, Genessee Co., NY. There are several other versions running around out there, but the above seems most likely to me. Donald Jacobus has him born in 1737 and married to Rebecca Towner, but this doesn't seem right, based on the tombstone date, the presence of a grave for "Eunice" next to his, and the names of his children, which closely parallel those of the siblings of Eunice Towner (from a Towner genealogy book). Does any of your information pertain to this Joseph b. 1755? I am not sure yet who his parents were, because there were so many Joseph Osborns in this vicinity at this time. I haven't found a good birth record with the right date, but I hope one exists, somewhere. I have a pretty good handle on some of his descendents, if you're interested. I guess I should also post this on the message board, for all who are interested. Best wishes, Laurie Osborn in MA
