Most of that information I have already uncovered. I thought that maybe someone who has better access to historical newpapers online could mayhap do a search and come up with anything on this person. I have been trying to help this woman as best I can with the resources available but I have had no luck. You might be right about the divorce thing. I find it strange that hes single in 1917, and then a few years later he just disappears. Oh well, thanks anyways. Sarah

Westchester County is right next to Fairfield. However, there is an Earl Cottrell in the 1920 census living on Main St. in Bridgeport with wife Ethel and daughter Thelma, but born in 1896. He appears to be the same one listed in the WWI draft registration cards. In 1917 he was single, supporting a grandmother. In the 1930 census, Ethel is listed as a widow with her daughter Thelma. This does not necessarily mean that Earl was dead. In that time frame, many divorced or deserted wives saved face by calling themselves widows. If Earl died before 1930, he would not appear in the Social Security Death Index. I find no Earl Cottrell in the 1930 census that looks like the one you want. There is an Earl Cottrell in Groton, CT in 1962 and 1965, but there's not enough info in a city directory to know if it's the same one. The only problem is I can't seem to find this family after 1936. He is only interested in the parents he has all the information on the kids. The parents are the Alexander & Amelia mentioned in the first posting. Their original last name was spelled Kozlowski as listed in the earlier city directories. In 1936 the family changed their name and were listed as Kay. After that the parents are no longer listed at least as far as I checked. So if anyone can up with the death dates or obits it would help this person out a lot. At this point I think its a liitle too late for it to be a christmas gift. Sarah

I looked from 1937-1948 and I do not see any mention of the parents at all. I am wondering if anyone who has access to ancestry can search the historical newspaper and maybe come up with an obit. The man just needs the dates so he can call vital statistics and get the death records. I believe they died in 1936-37. I could look in the microfilms of the papers but they are not indexed and it would take me forever. Sarah

Directory ends at 1939 cause they were not published during the war years. But if they had moved during that time it will be stated in the directory and some of them will tell you where they moved too. But you will need a death certificate for the cemetery. The cost is only $5.00 per certificate and send yor request to Bridgeport Town Clerk Office. Than I would follow up at the cemetery level to see who else is buried in the same plot area. There are too many cemeteries in Fairfield County to name. I hope this will help you. Good Luck.
