I did see some Denny's listed but not her. If you can give me more specifics, i could do a better search.
Dear CT Friends, I'm in hopes that there would be somone who would go to the basement of the Ferguson Library in Stamford and pull an obituary for me from their microfilm collection. If so, it is of my uncle Richard P. Hartmann, and he died on December 16 1975 in Florida. I would think his obituary would be in the Advocate in the December 1975 time period between the 17th and 25th. I would be willing to reimburse for copying and mailing expenses. Sincerely, George Hoyt (formerly of Stamford, but now of Glen Ivy CA)
Message Board Rules and Help I guess it's good to have rules as commercial stuff can creep in and even overwhelm. On the other hand such a tiny fee for invaluable info seems to be a bargain. I can't imagine that this lady is making very much money considering travel, gas is still up there, time spent, try to get a very special service for $10! I suspect that many of the folks that are complaining will keep that help address for later use, I know I will. Norm Valentine
The rules clearly state that there will be no advertising for a fee. Some time ago, I posted a note on Rootsweb, looking for help and was emailed privately by someone willing to help. This person has helped me tremendously over a period of a year now and I periodically send her checks. Nothing says that help can't be obtained, but direct advertising is not proper.
Dear Fellow List Members, I see nothing wrong in what she offered. A few years ago I traveled from Northern Wisconsin to Connecitcut and spent seven days out there, mostly in Fairfield and Hartford counties. Researched from about 9 to 9 everyday and didn't get one half of what I went out there for. So when someone offers to do a look up or go and get the information at a low fee, they are offering alot of us a good service. I have paid a person advertizing as a genealogist and got alot less for my money than a person offering a service for a small fee. To me this wasn't advertizing it was offering her service!! Allene Trowbridge Hintz p.s. Except for the horrible traffic, I loved Connecticut!!!

The Message Board Admin says "The board rules are linked at the bottom of the Message Board and specifically state:" "Messages must NOT be posted that include: *** A commercial, fee for service. . . ***" <snip> The post has been removed from the board. The person who offered the work for a fee has apologized. I believe it was an oversight and hope it won't happen again. Yes, the board is for the free exchange of Fairfield County Genealogy information. As is the Fairfield Co. USGenWeb Project site. The posts must be non-commercial and specifically mention Fairfield County, a town in Fairfield County or a genealogy connection to the area. Happy New Year to all! I hope you all break down your genealogy brick walls this year. Regards, Maureen Mead Rootsweb Board Administrator, Fairfield Co., CT. "Lineage Book, National Society of The Daughters of The American Revolution" Volume VII 6001-7000, 1894 by Mary Jane Seymour, Washington, D. C. 1898, page 112 and 113. Our Henry Banks of Atlanta Georgia area had an older brother named Henry. Here is an old email explaining it to: Janbobbie1@aol.com Dear Janis in Texas, Thank you, for the information about the Fairfield Book written by Donald Lines Jacobus. The library at Florida State University has a book named "The History of Fairfield" written by Mrs. Elizabeth Hubbell Schenck Volume I 1889 and Volume II in 1905. I hope to read these soon. Last week, at FSU Strozier Library, I found a large series of books, "New England Historical and Genealogical Register" Call Number 973.05 N532, in which a few contained typed copies of all of the Greenfield Hill Church Records, Fairfield County, CT. Where the confusion begins is that there are 2 Henrys that are brothers in this immediate family: 1 born 1797 and his brother (my Henry) born 1811. In this book, written 1915, Volume 69 page 373, the eldest son of Hyatt named Henry (not my younger Henry) is listed under Persons Baptized on February 8th, 1803: Henry, Son Eunice, Daughter Alson, Son Marietta, Daughter (all) of Hyat Banks I have found several websites that do not have all of these same kids listed, so, none of these family trees where created using these church records & my Henry is not listed on the websites. The only confirmation that I have found that my Henry Banks born 1811 is the son of Hyatt Banks 1764-1847 and Elizabeth Wakeman 1765-1835 is Henry and his wife's name Mary Margaret Cox (1825-1910) is listed at the very last line of on a 2 page DAR Genealogical Form – Lineage and Rev Service document (Mary Burr Banks) of a person who descends from Henry's older brother, Eben W. Banks 1796-1869. Where the confusion begins is that there are 2 Henrys that are brothers in this immediate family: 1 born 1797 and his brother (my Henry) born 1811. I am asking the D. A. R. to send me more information about who submitted this form but, they have not responded yet. Attached is page 1 the document that I just typed up from the copy that I found. I will type page 2 this afternoon and send it to you. Please, download it and notice that there are 2 sons named Henry that belong to Hyatt on the bottom of the 2nd page. Please, let me know if you come across any more information. Sincerely, Florence Carrie Brown Janbobbie1@aol.com wrote: Hi Florence, If you have not already found where to get that book, "The History and Genealogy of the Families of Old Fairfield", you might contact Heritage Books: http://www.heritagebooks.com If I remember correctly, it is a 3 volume set compiled by Donald Lines Jacobus in 1930. Your line is as follows: *John Banks d. 1685 at Fairfield **Benjamin Banks d. 1692 m. Elizabeth Lyon ***Benjamin Banks 1682-1760 m. (1) Ruth Hyatt ****Gershom Banks 1712-1732 (Yale grad 1732) m. Charles Winton (4) Albert Banks (5) Noah Banks m. Sally Gould (6) Charles Banks. (There is no child named "Henry" listed for Hyatt & Elizabeth.) If you are interested give me all the specifics as to names and dates. Also include your name and mailing address, so i can mail you whatever information i am able to find.
