    1. [CT-VETERANS] Rev War unit service records added to Record Hunter
    2. TD Maloney via
    3. DigitalCambria has added over 29,000 pages of Revolutionary War compiled unit service records to Record Hunter Search (RHSearch.com) covering 217 military units from Connecticut, Rhode Island, Virginia and the Continental Troops. Records are also online for Delaware, Georgia, Maryland, New Jersey, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and Vermont. Unit service records are a great compliment to the records of individual veterans and can provide additional insight into a patriot’s service. Many unit records contain troop movements and assignments as well as encampments and the battles in a unit participated. The records added have not been indexed beyond the state and unit name; however, as time progresses items will be searchable by the names, places, battles, etc. found in the documents. Record Hunter, host of thousands of free records and resources for researchers, can be accessed at www.RHSearch.com. Rootsweb is a great resource for researchers to assist one another; as such, this email is meant as an informational post and not a discussion. If you should encounter an error on the website, or wish to provide feedback, please use the site's contact form. TD Maloney Director of Research CM&R www.DigitalCambria.com

    1. [CT-VETERANS] John LANE, Anna Maria LANE, Rev. War
    2. Carolyn Bruce
    3. John LANE enlisted in the Connecticut Continental Line and his wife, Anna Maria LANE, dressed as a man and joined alongside him. They participated in the Battle of Germantown, Pennsylvania, 4 October 1777, where she suffered a leg wound, resulting in a permanent disability. "In the garb, and with the courage of a soldier, (she) performed extraordinary military services," it is said of her service that day. Does anyone know of this couple's parents, marriage, or their life in Connecticut? Any help appreciated. Carolyn HALE BRUCE Virginia Beach, VA

    1. [CT-VETERANS] Military research at the National Archives
    2. Kelley Bevis
    3. Hello. My name is Kelley -- I recently completed my Masters degree and am going to law school this fall here in Washington, D.C. School is expensive and I could use some extra money to pay for tuition and loans, so I am offering to do military research at the National Archives (service files, pension files, etc). Generally, a request for this kind of information takes the Archives several months, at a minimum, to process. I can retrieve them much faster and also give you someone to interact with instead of a government form. My fees are reasonable, intended to compensate me for my time, printing costs and postage for what I'll send back to you. The Archives offers extended hours once a month, so I would be doing research over the course of three days each month, and I am more than happy to send you a schedule. If you are interested, please just email me at texlabooks@gmail.com Take care. Kelley

    2. Scott Wolfe
    3. Hi all. I have the following cd, which I am willing to do some lookups from. Revolutionary War Pensions Lists, Military Records. Contains images from 12 volumes of Revolutionary War pension records. Contains information on approximately 110,000 individuals. Some types of information that “may” be included is… Name and Rank, Regiment and description of service, Place of residence, Nature of wounds or disability, Date of death, Occasional reference to family members. Please send any requests for a lookup from this cd to me at HYPERLINK "mailto:scott1@digginbones.com"scott1@digginbones.com . Please be sure to put "Rev. War Pension Lists" in the subject line of your message. Please include the state they enlisted in and or filed in which may be the same state they died in. If you know a spouses name or birth date and or death date. Even if you are not certain that your ancestor served during the Rev. War, you may still feel free to ask for a lookup, as long as you know the person would have been of age to have served in the war. Scott Wolfe 1421 Hampton Ct. 1. [CT-VETERANS] Help restore funding to our National Archives - NARA
    2. Dear Fellow Researchers $22 Million has been cut from our US Federal Archives budget: The National Archives and Records Administration which has branches in New England. As a result the hours to access this free government library called NARA will affect the research needs of many of us including prospective members of lineage societies, authors adding flavor to their writings, those searching military records as well as folks working on their immigrant families and those who use untold numbers of unusual records to find clues about their brick-wall families. Please see the message and link below organized by the Federation of Genealogical Societies to help restore access and funds. You will be able to read what other people have said at the petition site. FYI: These are the closest branches of the National Archives (NARA) to Connecticut: Waltham (Boston) MA, Pittsfield, MA, and New York City. Sincerely, Deborah (Pelletier) Tajmajer, Registrar Nathan Hale Memorial Chapter DAR Connecticut Ancestor Connections, East Haddam, CT Member: US GenWeb Project ----- "NARA announced recently (Thursday, Aug. 31 at the FGS Conference in Boston) that very few genealogists have made their voices heard on the issue of the reduction of hours at the National Archives. The Federation of Genealogical Societies Records Preservation and Access Committee has prepared a statement indicating that, this lack of response sends a loud signal to the Archives that this is not a serious issue and that closing the Archives on evenings and Saturdays is irrelevant. The RPAC has recommended the following suggestions for the Archives to consider:" 1. To accommodate the needs of those who need access on Saturdays, we propose that you close one other day per week. This would be at your discretion. Other archives often close Sunday and Monday. 2. Users who need evening hour access could be accommodated by opening the archives later in the day, again at your discretion. If you agree with the recommendations stated above, we are asking your support by immediately going on-line and adding your signature to our petition to substitute the hours of access and still help the archives to meet their need to consolidate their hours of operation. Before 8 September 2006, please go to: http://www.PetitionOnline.com/FGS2006/petition.html (case sensitive) If you would like to send your own personal letter, send it prior to 8 September 2006 and address it to: Regulations Comments Desk (NPOL) Room 4100, Policy and Planning Staff National Archives and Records Administration 8601 Adelphi Road College Park, MD 20740-6001 Please help spread the word on this important issue by sharing it with others. ----

    3. Hello, My g-g-g-g-grandfather, David Fuller born 1754 in Willington, Tolland Co., CT. He served in the Revolutionary War and I've been informed by the historian for the area that he applied for a pension and bounty land in 1812. He died in 1814. I've sent away to the NARA for his military and pension records, in the meantime I wanted to find what information I can. In the case of the bounty land given away for Revolutionary War service, was some of this bounty land in New York? Are there other places I can look for information? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Merrie (Fuller) Sodder Republic, WA

    1. Aunt Gladys WWII Diary
    2. Peggy J Knox
    3. Hi Everybody, For the past few months or so, I have been working with my cousins, Johnny Knox Holcombe and Liz Knox Adkinson to put excerpt of my Aunt Gladys diary she kept during WWII. Johnny gave me permission to put excerpts from her mother's diary on my site, and Liz, who volunteered to do my web site when I put Gramma Knox's Legacy Book I on the Internet, has done a wonderful job putting the diary on the site. There is one kink with the thumbnail pictures on the title page of the diary. They don't seem to be there right now, but I have no doubt that Liz will be able to fix that. The URL is: http://freepages.family.rootsweb.com/~peggyjknox <http://freepages.family.rootsweb.com/%7Epeggyjknox> The explanation of the other two pictures that have been added to my site. On my welcome page is a picture of me and my son, Dean DeVirgilio, which was taken in my home on December 26, 2004, and the other is a picture of Aunt Gladys with two of her four children--Sammie Tabor on the left and Lewis on the right.. It was taken by my son Dean in 1997, when we stayed with Aunt Gladys at the Knox farm in MIddlefield, NY--a few miles from Cooperstown--for a few days. During the war, Uncle Lewie was a student minister in Middletown, CT. In addition to the every day life that all Americans lived during that tine, the diary includes things that were happening in the Knox Family during that time, including the illnesses and deaths of my Aunt Lil and my Grandpa Knox. I've tried my best to identify who is who in the end notes, and other things that I thought needed further explanation. It goes without saying, if you recognize I have something wrong, or would like further info, please feel free to let me know that. I do hope you enjoy reading. Shalom Peggy J. Knox

    1. RE: World War I Draft Registration Records
    2. Judy White
    3. This morning I spent some time reading World War 1 Draft Registrations, just looking to see how many Native American Records I could come up with. I searched several states, GA, AR, AL, and Ok just to name a few. It will take a bit of work on your part but you just may be able to find some ancestors using the information listed below. Ancestry has opened up it's World War 1 Draft Registration records for visitors of Access Genealogy for free. This will cover a 14 day period between July 4 - July 17 2005. The only thing required to view the records is an email address and your name. No credit card required! This is not a 14 day trial of all of their material. It is strictly limited to their World War 1 Draft Registration images. http://www.accessgenealogy.com/ In 1917 and 1918, approximately 24 million men living in the United States completed a World War I draft registration card. These registration cards represent approximately 98% of the men under the age of 46. The total U.S. population in 1917-1918 was about 100 million individuals. In other words, close to 25% of the total population is represented in these records. The WWI draft registration cards database can be an extremely useful resource because it covers a significant portion of the U.S. male population in the early twentieth-century. If you had family in the United States during WWI, you are likely to find at least one relative's information within this large collection. In addition, these cards contain more than just names and dates; they contain significant genealogical information such as birthplace, citizenship status, and information on the individual's nearest relative. In general, the registration cards included the following information Full name Home address Date and place of birth Age, race, and country of citizenship Occupation and employer Physical description (hair and eye color, height, disabilities) Additional information such as address of nearest relative, dependent relatives, marital status, father's birthplace, or previous exemption from service Signature. http://www.accessgenealogy.com/ Direct url: http://www.accessgenealogy.com/military/ww1/draft.htm Please feel free to pass this information on to others!!
