Perhaps I started my White lineage backwards, and should have started with the earliest ancestor in this line that I have found. This line is probably my VERY most wanted, and has been a 20 year struggle. I will post the "bare bones" line, and then fill out some details in subsequent mailings. Robert WHITE...b. ca. 1717/1724..place unknown. d. 1778. Place mentioned, Windsor.. He m. Elizabeth. (I have reason to believe GRANT) ca.1741. 6 known children Friend WHITE sr. 1728 to 1824. places known, East Windsor, New Hartford, and Barkhamsted. His wife is unknown (and I want so badly to find her) They had 2 children that I am aware of. Probably more. <if anyone can help here, I would be so grateful> Friend WHITE jr. 1775 to 1858. m. Roxanna HAMLIN. and had 7 children that I know. Places mentioned , Barkhamstad, Canton, possibly, Windsor. Seldon WHITE 1809..d. 1868. m. Diademia Hanna Barbour in 1836. In 1863, they were members of the Canton Church. I have 7 children, including Willard WHITE, born 1843 at Canton, Simsbury, Conn. ROBERT WHITE seems to have come from nowhere. I will be very appreciative of any bits of information, or help in any way with this family. I have learned a lot and will be most happy to share with anyone, the information I do have. I have tried to connect with the Mayflower Whites, with no success, at least so far. I might mention that I have 2 other WHITE lines that tie into this family, but seemingly not connected otherwise. U.S. Grant: GRANT Ulysses Simpson (1822-1885), 18th U. S. President, General of the Army (Lt. Gen. during Civil War), and author of his Memoirs (1885), married Julia Boggs DENT (1826-1902), 15th First Lady. Jesse Root GRANT (1794-1873) and Hannah SIMPSON (1798-1883) Noah GRANT (1740-1819) and Rachel Miller KELLY Noah GRANT (1718-1756) and Susanna DELANO (b. 1724) Noah GRANT (1692-1727) and Martha HUNTINGTON (b. 1696) Samuel GRANT (1659-1710) and Grace MINOR (1670-1753) Samuel GRANT (1631-1718) and Mary PORTER (b. 1638) John PORTER (1590-1648) and Anna WHITE (1600-1647) Robert WHITE (d. 1617) and Bridget ALGAR (b. 1562) This GRANT line lived for two or three generations in Windsor, and it was common for families in the same locality to intermarry over several generations. Matthew GRANT, the immigrant, was town clerk and surveyor of Windsor for 40 years. And some later GRANTs apparently were in Simsbury. HOWEVER, we should be aware that a GRANT genealogy was compiled by the fraud Gustave Anjou. Whether that affects the above lineage, I do not know. Now Savage does not mention a WHITE in Windsor, but his cutoff date was 1692. The family was spread up and down the CRV, from Middletown to Hadley -- at least. Windsor is somewhere in the middle of that range. Elizabeth GRANT who m. Robt WHITE was indeed a desc of Matthew/1 GRANT. (Matthew/1, Samuel/2, Matthew/3, John/4, Elizabeth/5) http://genweb.net/~meregra/db1/g0000018.htm#I984 But no ancestry for Robert WHITE is given on this site. > ROBERT WHITE seems to have come from nowhere. Wrong area, IMO. > I might mention that I have 2 other WHITE lines that tie into this family, > but seemingly not connected otherwise. It's not an uncommon name, but I believe my WHITEs were in the majority in the CRV. HTH, Warren
I would like to clarify the White family that I have mentioned in previous postings. The following is a summary of Robert WHITE s family. This is Robert White s family. ROBERT WHITE Birth: abt 1717 place, unknown Death: Oct 1778 Robert: "For the love and good will I bear unto my son Friend White (sr), I give grant, bequeath and confirm 5-6 acres, land by Hickanau river. At East Windsor Connecticut." In 1788, Friend (sr) and Henry White bought 6 acres from Robert White. In 1750-51, Robert sold land, 27A. and small dwelling to John GRANT. In 1755, sold Windsor Land to Eliphalet. ROBERT WHITE m. ca 1741 to Elizabeth (Grant) The Grant books do not list Elizabeth as wife of Robert. However, I have land records, wills. etc. which would indicate that she was the correct person.
