forwarding this for Barbara....offering look ups ----- Original Message ----- From: The Pahlows To: Cyndy and John Sent: Sunday, August 17, 2003 9:51 AM Subject: Re: Deerfield (off-list) I am having a problem posting to the list with my registered email address--I'll fix that later (going up to NEHGS today!) What I wanted to tell them: any massacre victims (including Benoni Stebbins) are buried in a mass grave in the Old Burying Ground. Also, I toured that cemetery earlier this year and most of the stones are readable. There is a marker at the site of the Benoni Stebbins homestead that I did take a picture of; I can send that to whoever wants to see it. It tells how he held the French and Indian attackers off for 3 hours--he was killed, but before it was all over "the French had lost their Lieutenant and the Indians had lost their Chief." Finally, the Smead researchers should try and find "The Nims Family: Seven Generations of Descendants From Godfrey Nims". There are hundreds of Smeads listed in the index--I do have it--can do lookups. If you saw my post go through on the list, please disregard. Otherwise, could you forward this to the list and later I'll probably unsubscribe/resubscribe with a different email account. Barbara Pahlow Providence, RI
