Phil: Montague is just up the road from Deerfield, not even 5 miles..... little bit of background on Montague.... 1754: established as "District of Montague".......this tract of land was taken from Sunderland. 1775: made a town Section or villages of Montague: Lake Pleasant....Millers Falls...Turners Falls....Montague City... Montague Center. Your Josiah could have lived at Deerfield prior to Montague... as the settlers were still "clustered" for defense in 1740's and 50's. The French Indian war started up around 1754. In your case, you should check both towns.....
