I'm trying to find more information on the ancestry and descendancy of a DANIEL GAY who was born CA 1749 in perhaps Canaan Parish, Fairfield County, CT - to unknown parents. Canaan Parish was formed from portions of Norwalk & Stamford and today is known as New Canaan. Daniel married SARAH KELLY between 1770 – 1774 probably in Southeast, Dutchess County, New York. Sarah was to Jonathan OKLEY (also spelled Kelly) and Priscilla KING on 31 March 1754 in Southeast, Dutchess County, New York. Daniel Gay and Sarah Kelly had at least 8 children: Abner Gay (b. 1775), Sarah (b. 1780), Cyrus (b. 1783), Daniel (b. 1784-1786), Josiah (b. 1786), Ebenezer (b. 1788), Clarissa (b. 1792), and Phillip (b. 1794. All were born in Southeast, Dutchess County, New York. Some of the grandchildren moved to Tioga County, NY and to Fairfield County, CT. My DANIEL GAY died in 1812 in Southeast, Putnam County, New York. Putnam County was formed from a portion of Dutchess County in the year Daniel died. He lived in the “Oblong” which seems to be a genealogical “black hole. I would love to be able to connect Daniel Gay back to the GAY Families of Sharon, CT …. Definitely back to his parents wherever … Any info on this line would be greatly appreciated! David J.
