    1. [CRV] Digest V03 #274 - About Josiah Churchill
    2. Elizabeth Phillips
    3. Appreciate your reply, Kim, despite my possibly going down in flames. I waited to reply to your post until I could check my sources. Obviously, you had some big guns. B-) My source had been a lady named Maxwell in California several years ago, whose material I came across through another genealogist who was interested in the Churchills. At that point we had it all documented, etc., back to Josiah, but no further. Some place (it's been a while back) we came across some one who said that they had this information, but that they had not verified it themself. The originator, a Ms. Maxwell, with complete e-mail and address, etc. had sent it to this person. I know you are supposed to verify every thing by primary records, etc. if you can, but this particular information took the whole thing back to the 1200's .... and of course contained the famous Churchill family with the early Winston, John, the famous Duke of Marlborough, etc. Well, in corresponding with Ms. Maxwell within the last few days, she showed her material, but the part where the Churchills came in evidently came from a lady who has died just a few years ago, and she did not get her sources before she died. So, maybe she had the goods ... maybe she didn't. I realize that with all the information you gave and the corraboration by many (I'm sure) emininent or at least verifying genealogists, that you certainly have a reason to state your case. It's quite possible that you are correct. However, I plan to keep the information that I have at present. I have asked Ms. Maxwell if there is any possibility there might be some papers left by her source, genealogical friends, etc. and we will go from there. As I said, you quite possibly are right, but you never know when someone will pop up with true and validated information that doesn't go along with what was formerly known. So until then, I will keep the information that you posted, but will still keep in mind the other earlier material that I had until I see what happens down the line. BTW - my husband is descended from Josiah and then Joseph 1649-1715 Nathaniel 1677-1716 Nathaniel 1703 - ? Nathaniel 1731 - ? Nathaniel 1756 - ? Nathaniel 1784 - 1861 William 1817 - 1907 dtr. Helen Theresa Churchill m. Eugene Cleveland 1845-1923 Phillips 1841 - 1911 Ernest Churchill Phillips Sr. 1876 - 1959 Ernest Churchill Phillips Jr. 1928 - Won't go into more details unless you want me to. Too long for here and probably not really necessary. Thanks at least for telling me nicely, Betsy Phillips --------------------- > Date: Fri, 22 Aug 2003 07:10:39 -0400 > From: branagak@twcny.rr.com > To: CT-RIVER-VALLEY-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: [CRV] Re: CHURCHILL, JOSIAH / 1615-1659 / > Wethersfield, CT > > Betsy, > > Here is the information I have on Josiah Churchill. > I am descended through his grandchild, Captain > Benjamin Church.
