I have found some information that MAY assist someone searching VT military records: "The printed list of Vermonters who served in wars from the Revolution to the Korean War were published by the Vermont Adjutant General's Office and are available at most major libraries" I would suggest contacting your library.....perhaps an inter-library loan. Most original records whilch were kept in Vt before 1920 were destroyed in a fire of 1945. However, the Vt Adjutant General;s Veterans Affairs Office located at 118 State St., Monteplier, Vt 05602 will answer queries on military service records. The pension material is located at the National Archives in Washington,DC The "General Abstracts of Revolutionary War Pension files" has now been published by Virgil E.White and the National Historical Publishing Co. in 3 volumes with a 4th volume as a cross index. War of 1812 pension applications have been abstracted and published. The Vermont Historical Society has a COMPLETE SET of BOTH published abstracts which can be found at large libraries. The original applications for the 1812 pensions are maintained at the National Archives. Civil War records: National Archives [ these have not been abstracted or published] You will need a form NATF80 from the Reference Services Branch of the General Service Adminstration, Washington,DC 20408 to get copies of these files.
