    3. Here I am going to put some tid bits of information that may assist some of you. Source: History of Watertown,Mass by Bond, 1860 ===== Mills 1. First mill by Edward How, 1634, head of the tide on Charles River 2. Timothy Hawkins, 1662, a fulling mill on Beaver Brook 3. John Livermore, Richard Child, Josiah Jones of Watertown, also John Heywood of Concord: 1678 a corn mill on Stony Brook --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ferries and bridges 1. Richard Browne, given license to have a ferry on the Charles River, 1633 2. 1644, grant was given to Mr Mayhew for a foot bridge, and 2 men were chosen to oversee the up keep of the bridge, Peter Noyes and Edmund Goodenow. ------------------------------------------------------------ Graveyards: 1. July 5,1642, Hugh Mason, Thomas Hastings,and John Sherman, appointed to set up a sufficient fence about the "burying place". It's now the Old Graveyard of Watertown. [located about 1/2 mile west of Mt.Auburn Cem.] This was the ONLY cemetery in the area of Watertown, Waltham , and Weston for 70 years. 2. Jan 1702-3: a cemetery now on Grove St in Waltham......only cemetery in Waltham for 100 years. 3. A new cemetery built in 19th century.....was laid out where the town of Watertown was first settled [100 acres].....a great many of the original home stalls were there but no sign of them today[1860] and that cemetery today is Mt.Auburn Cemetery. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------- Church: 1. the first church[Congregational] of Watertown was organized July 28,1630 and is the oldest in Massachusetts Bay Colony with exception of Salem. It was the only church in W. for 66 years. ---first pastor: Rev.George Phillips and he served 10 years ----John Knowles, ordained pastor, Dec 9th,1640....served 10 years -----Rev.
