He was married to Sarah STOW on 25 Dec 1760 in Granville, Hampden, Massachusetts. 5. Sarah STOW was born on 14 Dec 1739 in Middletown, Middlesex, Connecticut. She died in Conway, Franklin, Massachusetts. Ezekiel HALE and Sarah STOW had the following children: 2 i. Calvin HALE. 6. Dr. Phinehas BARTLETT was born on 15 Feb 1745 in Portland, Middlesex, Connecticut. He died on 29 Oct 1799 in Ashfield, Franklin, Massachusetts. He was buried in Ashfield Plain Cemetery, Ashfield, Franklin, Massachusetts. Vital Records of Ashfield, Massachusetts, to the Year 1850. Published by the New England Historic Genealogical Society, Boston, Mass. 1942. p. 255. He came to Ashfield in 1756 form Connecticut, it was an almost unbroken wilderness. There were only fifteen families in the township. Conway was not discovered. He bought a farm to help support his family. Dr. Bartlet's father owned a slave by the name of Peter Guinea or Peter Wells who was born in Guinea Africa and taken by a slave trader from there when about seven years old. He was held as a slave in Connecticut; he married "Sue". At that time, slaves were uncertain property. In a short time they ran away and followed Dr. Bartlet to Ashfield. Dr. Thomas Sheppard in 1834 Published by the Town Published 1910. p. 142 A large number of physicians have practiced in the town, of these the first was Dr. Phineas Bartlet, who is mentioned in the town records as early as 1766 and who remained in practice until the time of his death in 1799. After visiting a patient he fell from his horse and died in a fit. In 1793 he built the house now occupied by Professor Norton's family. He was largely identified with public affairs, represented the town in General Court, was town clerk a great many years and filled other positions of responsibility.
