    2. FOURTH GENERATION 8. William COIT (Isaac-3, Benjamin-2, Samuel-1) was born on 1 Jun 1781 in Preston, New London, Connecticut. He died on 16 Feb 1860 in Norwich, Hampshire, Massachusetts. He was taken by his parents, when an infant, to Norwich, Mass., where he was brought up and spent his life in Agricultural occupations, much respected by his neighbors, although his social intercourse with them was hindered by his extreme deafness. He had no children, but adopted Charles, a son of his brother John H. Coit, and left him his farm by will. He died after a painful illness of three weeks, by inflammation of the bladder. He was married to Huldah WATTS on 16 Mar 1805. 9. Alethina COIT (Isaac-3, Benjamin-2, Samuel-1) was born on 14 Jan 1783 in Preston, New London, Connecticut. She was married to Elihu TINKER in 1800. He joined the second Congregational church in Norwich in 1822, and for many years officiated as deacon and Superintendent of the Sabbath School. In all the relations of life he exhibited an example seldom equaled for blamelessness and faithfulness. For this we have the testimony of his pastor, Rev. Dr. Bond, in a sermon delivered soon after his death, and also of his fellow-citizens generally, who acknowledged him as a pillar in society, contributing essentially to the strength and beauty thereof, by his intelligence, dignity, uprightness, sincerity, discretion and benevolence.
