He was taken by his parents, when an infant, to Norwich, Mass., where he was brought up and spent his life in Agricultural occupations, much respected by his neighbors, although his social intercourse with them was hindered by his extreme deafness. He had no children, but adopted Charles, a son of his brother John H. Coit, and left him his farm by will. He died after a painful illness of three weeks, by inflammation of the bladder.
