Just wanted to make sure Data I have accumulated: Date: Fri, 24 Jul 1998 From: Laura Hulslander <[email protected]> I checked the book "Records of the Protestant Presbyterian Church of Cambridge, Washington Co., NY" but there was no marriage listed for Anna Wells to Benjamin Fenton. There was no birth listed for Martha W. Fenton either. I did some checking on both families but didn't find any mention of those names under Fenton or Wells. Do you have any idea of which Wells family Anna belonged to? Wells" <[email protected]> Unfortunately, I am having a struggle trying to get coverage on this family. So I am not able to help you out on this other than to confirm Thomas Welles did exist and did come from Dudley, Worcestershire. If I can find time to run them down, I do have records from various researchers from this family and will see what I can find. In the LDS library there should be a book written by Catherine B. Welles some years back. This may contain what you are looking for. I know about the book, but have never been able to get my hands on a copy. I once spoke to her husband, Rev. Edward Randolph Welles who sent me a brief bit of information but advised me that when he died the records his wife had accumulated would go to some family member whom he did not identify. >Mary Beth Wheeler lists her source on Wells documentation as Ernie & Sue Wells but their email address is not current. Anyone know their current one?<< I want that too if anyone can come up with either their current e-mail address OR a current address/telephone number. I have been trying to find them for several months now. I admit, I did not write to them. Orin R. Wells Wells Family Research Association P. O. Published 1876. Page 161: Progenitor No. IX. Thomas Welles was born in Dudley, Worcestershire, Eng., Jan. 10, 1694. Came to America A.D. 1712, and landed in Saybrook, Conn., whence he removed in the year 1725 to Gilead Parish, town of Hebron, Conn., where he purchased a small landed property, and died Feb. 4, 1760 (N.S.), aged 66 years. "Thomas Welles bought a tract of land and dwelling house at Saybrook of John Whittlesey, containing five acres, April 10, 1721."- Saybrook Rec., vol. 3, page 140. He married at Saybrook, Conn., "ye 13th of May 1720, to Elizabeth Merrill of Saybrook," who was born at Saybrook Dec. 24 (N.S.), 1686, and died at Hebron, Conn., Dec. 24, 1770 (N.S.). Seven sons: John, born about 1728 Edmund, born Feb. 9, 1721 (O.S.) Saybrook Rec., vol. 2, page 269. Thomas born Aug. 27, 1723 Joseph born Hebron, Aug. 28, 1726 Samuel born Hebron, 1730 William born Hebron, 1732 Daniel born Hebron, 1735 -------- I also found this information on Joseph in the Albert Welles book. Joseph Welles, third son of Thomas Welles, was born in Hebron, Conn., Aug. 28, 1726, whence he removed about the year 1760, to Cambridge, Washington Co., N.Y., where he lived the residue of his lifetime and died about the year 1817, aged 90 years. He was married in New London, Conn., about 1750. Shaler, born about 1751 Nathaniel, born about 1754 Joseph, born about 1756 Tabitha, born about 1758 Abiah, born about 1760.
