    2. FIRST GENERATION 1. Robert BOLTWOOD was born on 19 Apr 1683 in Hadley, Hampshire, Massachusetts. He died on 29 Feb 1704 in Deerfield, Franklin, Massachusetts. Slain at Deerfield, at the time of sack of that village by French and Indians. He was buried in Old Burying Ground, Deerfield, Franklin, Massachusetts. Coleman, published by The Pocumtuck Valley Memorial Association, Deerfield, Massachusetts, 1924. p. 47 Buried in a common grave in the south-eastern corner of the ground were the victims of the massacre. Sergeant, perhaps came from Essex Co., England, where the name existed as early as the reign of Edward I (1273) is first named on Conn. Records, in 1648, freeman, May 20, 1658. Before removing to Hadley, Mass., as one of the first settlers, he probably resided in east part of Wethersfield, now Glastenbury. An enterprising man, he was made freeman in March 26, 1661.
