First Generation 1. Martin SEYMOUR was born on 24 AUG 1789 in Wethersfield, Hartford, Connecticut. Second Generation 2. Ashbel SEYMOUR was born on 25 JAN 1748 in Wethersfield, Hartford, Connecticut. He died on 31 JUL 1814 in West Hartford, Hartford, Connecticut. Ashbel responded to the Lexington Alarm in a company from Wethersfield. Later in 1775, he was sergeant in Capt. H. Welles Co., 2d Regt., and again in 1776. In 1804, he purchased land in West Hartford of Aaron Seymour and Anne his wife. He deeded land in West Hartford to his son Erastus, in 1806. He was probably the Ashbel Seymour who was one of the early teachers in the parish of New Britain, some years previous to 1788. The following letter, written in the early days of the War, when Ashbel was a young, unmarried soldier, brings us an authentic picture of the Revolution. He signed a will on 23 MAR 1770 in Wethersfield, Hartford, Connecticut. In his Will, dated 23 Mar. 1770 and proved 21 Dec. 1774, he names his wife Thankful, his four sons, viz., Abel, George, Elias, and Ashbel, his two eldest daughters, viz., Lydia Webster and Mary, wife of Moses Hopkins, his daughter Mable wife of Charles Morgan, and his two youngest daughters, Thankful and Lios Seymour. He died on 17 NOV 1774 in Wethersfield, Hartford, Connecticut. Will was proved on 21 DEC 1774 in Wethersfield, Hartford, Connecticut. He was elected Ensign of the Tenth Company, Sixth Regiment of Militia, at Wethersfield, 14 Nov 1754, and Lieutenant of the same company in may 1757, holding the latter office until 1762, when he asked to be dismissed. "on Acct of Indisposition of Body by reason of which he has for some time past been and yet remains unable to Serve therein." Lt.
