Estate ordered to be divided among the children equally, viz. - Uriah Seymour, Polly Hopkins, Chauncey Seymour, Sylvester Seymour, Constantine Seymour, Abner Seymour, and Elizabeth Merrells. Uriah's widow was Mary Seymour. He was buried in Colonial Cemetery, Derby, New Haven, Connecticut. He was one of the first settlers of New Hartford, and a prominent citizen. He and his wife owned the Covenant at the church there, 16 May 1756. He was appointed Surveyor of Lands in the County of Litchfield, in 1765. He was commissioned Lieutenant of the Troop of Horse in the 15th Regt., Oct. 1774. He marched from New Hartford, as Lieutenant in Capt. Seth Smith's Co., in response to the Lexington Alarm, and commanded a company in Major Sheldon's Regt. of Light Horse, 1776. He also turned out with the company to repel Tryon's raid on Danbury, in April 1777. He was appointed, 7 Nov. 1782, member of a Committee to report on the best place for a road and bridge over Mad River, Winchester. He built a house in 1800 on the old place, the homestead of Capt. Jonathan, the proprietor, and shaded his grounds with beautiful maples, some 24, of which most were drawn from East Mountain in a bundle tied to the yoke of his cattle. He refused 25 acres of land offered by Daniel Marsh for his oxcart. He owned two solid silver spoons made in New Hartford. He bought Daniel's' place when he moved west and used the cellar stones to build the wall in front of his own grounds. He resided where he was born and died there. viii.
